A Summer Celebration that did not get rained out! Thank you to everyone who made this night such a wonderful success. Have a look at the pictures in this newsletter. Did you notice the flags of our values? Didn’t they look great! Every item was absolutely fantastic and the culmination of the night with our dragon dance and the moon lantern parade just topped off the event. Thank you to all of our community who came along on the night to make it such a great event. Preparing for a community event such as this takes the good will of many staff members to take on the additional responsibility. Firstly I would like to thank all classroom teachers and other staff who prepared the students to present their items. In particular I would like to thank the Summer Celebration Committee: Sam, Chris, Jane, Nicole, Alison, Kaye, Becki and Ryan. In addition, a final thank you again to Ryan who provided the sound equipment which was very impressive and most importantly, effective. This Friday students will be visiting their ‘potential’ classrooms for 2015. I must stress the word “potential” as changes may still be made after this day which may or may not affect your child’s placement. Parent and teacher requests that were in by the due date have been accommodated to the best of our ability. This trial of an earlier transition morning has reduced our time to review the classes any further at this stage. Staff will assess the format and success of the morning and the process used this year at next week’s staff meeting. Students are still expected to attend their 2014 class at the beginning of the day. The roll will be taken at 8:45am in the morning as students need to get organized to move off to another class at 9:00am. Our year 7s and non-classroom staff will support the mass movement around the school at the allocated time. We are aware that some of our year 7s have their own transition day at their chosen high schools on this day. If you missed the last newsletter please note that swimming week for R-5 students is next week. The main points mentioned in the last newsletter were a request for parents not to take photos at the swimming centre and a request from the centre for parents not to speak to the swimming instructors during the lesson. Buses will be arriving early in the morning and at pick up time to shuttle students to and from the swimming centre; for the safety of our students we would like the buses to be able to pull into the parking bays at the front of the school. We understand that parking is an issue around the school but I’m sure you can agree that the safety of our students is far more important. Terence, our drama teacher, has been working on movies for all of the classes that he has had during this year. This has been a mammoth task given the quality of the movies being produced. Unfortunately not all of the movies will be ready to show this year. Terence has prioritised the movies that the year 7 students have been involved in as they will not be with us in 2015 to see them. Although we would have liked all of the movies to be finished in time for the end of this year, R-6 students and their families will be invited to view their movies next year. I know that Terence is disappointed with this outcome given the extensive out of hours work that he has put into this project this year. E01, E04 and K01’s movies will be shown on Thursday 11 th December at 6:45pm in the Hall. This is the time of the year when we review our site plan, our data and set targets and strategies for the coming year. Staff are currently taking part in this process and we will then share our site plan with Governing Council. Further reviews and information about our school and our achievements in 2014 are also documented in the Annual Report. Both the site plan and the Annual Report will be available on line next year after it is tabled at the Governing Council AGM in mid February. Parent opinion responses are part of the Annual Report and I would again like to thank those parents who took the time to provide feedback through the survey. Please note an early diary date for 2015: Acquaintance Night will be held in week 2 of the year which is much earlier than in previous years.
