Seton Live Calendar WELCOME TO THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR!
OPENING MASS: The opening Mass of the school year will be celebrated on Saturday, September 16, at 11:00 AM in the St. John Paul II Center. Our pastor, Father Roos will continue the tradition of celebrating this Mass. Sunday dress, please. As is also our tradition, please bring (or send in earlier) non-perishable food items to donate to the Bethany Food Pantry to help needy families in our parish. A reception will follow the Mass. Please bring finger foods and/or desserts to share. What better way to celebrate the opening of our 43rd year than participating in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.
SETON MUSCIAL 2018: After a hiatus of 16 years, Seton welcomes back Mrs. Maryan Vander Woude as director of the spring musical. Seton would also like to extend our profound thanks to Mrs. Lisa Bailey for all that she has done for our mu-sical and our school in the past 11 years. Words cannot de-scribe the appreciation we have for all of her hard work, shar-ing her time and talents with our students. God bless you, Lisa, in all of your future endeavors.
HONORING OUR LADY OF FATIMA: The next Holy Hour in honor of the centenary of Our Lady of Fatima is Wednes-day, September 13, 7:30-8:30 PM in the Seton chapel.
BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHTS: High School, Monday, Septem-ber 18, 7:15 PM. Junior High, Wednesday, September 20, 7:15 PM (moved because of the Holy Hour). For both, meet in the John Paul II Center, and bring a copy of your child’s schedule.
PLEDGED DONATIONS: Thanks to all those who have pledged donations in response to my August fund appeal. You should soon receive a personal thank you. I am also grateful to all those who have promised prayers. Prayers are essential to the success of Seton’s mission. If you have not yet sent in your pledge, you may still do so. And prayers may be said at any time!
The Pilgrim Virgin statue
will be received by the Alsup
family. The vocations crucifix will be received by the
Ashton family.
Attention Parents: Students are expected to be at Monday Mass
each week and on time. If your child will not be at Mass, please
call the absent tardy line. If we have not heard from you and
your child is not at Mass, they will receive a demerit.
WELCOME NEW TEACHERS!
Seton’s new Latin I-IV teacher, Miss Monica Wilson, is a native of New Jersey and a graduate of Christendom College. She has a BA in History with a focus on the classical period, including ad-vanced courses in Latin reading and translation. She was an active Latin tutor at the college, so she has experience with problems that Latin students face and how to solve them.
Mrs. Pamela Prevoznik, a Seton mother, will be teaching one section of girls’ Religion 8 while also bringing French back to Seton, beginning with French I. Mrs. Prevoznik has a Master’s degree in Moral Theology. She studied French in high school and college (7 years) and tutored French, worked with a French company, and served as translator in other business situations. Last summer she studied in the Alliance Francais in Philadelphia. She also has knowledge of Italian, Hebrew, Latin and Greek.
Mrs. Christan Summers is the wife of Craig Summers, Seton ’90. Since receiving her degree in elementary education from Franciscan University, she has taught for over twenty years, most re-cently at Nativity Catholic School in Burke. She has taught language arts, social studies and religion and was preparing to teach English and Grammar in middle school when she was hired to teach Reading 8 and Grammar 7 and 9 at Seton.
Mrs. Eve Montavon, Seton’s new Guidance Counselor, has experience in elementary, middle, and high school counseling. She earned her Master’s degree in School Counseling at George Mason Uni-versity and a Post Master’s Counseling Certificate, also from GMU. Mrs. Montavon is a full time counselor who will be working with other members of the guidance staff to help students succeed at Seton and beyond.
Mrs. Martha Aveni, longtime Seton mother, has been using her training in art to teach Art Appre-ciation for a year. However, she actually gained her degree from Virginia Tech in Chemistry and worked in the field before homeschooling her six children. She taught them all of their courses, in-cluding math, through Grade 6. This year she will be putting her diverse talents to work in teaching Pre-Algebra (formerly Math B), while continuing in Art Appreciation. Mrs. Aveni also coaches girls’ cross country.
PLEASE SEE THE ADDENDUM to the Sentinel for a protocol if you have a question or issue with a teacher or staff member.
