Simeon: My name is Simeon [SIM ih uhn] and I live in Jerusalem. God, through the Holy Spirit, revealed to me that I would not die until I saw the Messiah. One day, the Spirit told me to go into the temple area. Mary and Joseph entered the temple bringing their child, Jesus, with them. Mary and Joseph had come to the temple to dedicate Jesus, just as our laws required. I took Jesus in my arms and praised God for Him. I said, "God, You may allow me to die for I have seen with my own eyes the salvation You have provided. You have sent Your light to the Gentiles, and Your glory to the Israelites."

Mary and Joseph were amazed at the things I said about Jesus. I blessed both Mary and Joseph. To Mary I said, "Your child will cause the fall and

Reading the Bible (December 23) Worship KidStyle Children’s Edition, Winter 2012-2013© 2012 LifeWay Christian Resources of the Southern Baptist Convention. Printed in USA. OK to copy.

How Do I Study My Bible?Beginning to study your Bible may be difficult at first. You may wonder "Where do I begin?," "How much do I read every day?," or "How do I remember all the stuff I read?" Here are some ways you can study your Bible.

Study verse-by-verse. Begin with the first verse of a Bible book, and read 10-12 verses a day. Look up words you do not know and keep notes in a journal of things you learn. Think about these questions as you read the verses:• What did God want the people to know?• What does God want me to know?• How can I apply these verses to my life?

A second way to study is to learn about people in the Bible. What do you know about Noah, Esther, Daniel, Rahab [RAY hab], or the Beroeans [bih REE uhns]? Did you know the Beroeans searched the Scriptures to make sure what Paul taught is true? (Acts 17:10-15)

As you begin a person study, pick a person such as Ruth, Mary Magdalene [MAG duh leen], Caleb, or Titus [TIGH tuhs]. These individuals are important, but there is not so much information that you will become confused learning about them. When you have a better understanding of how to study Bible people, then you can study Moses, King David, Peter, or Paul.

Think about these questions as you study a Bible person:• Who is the person?• What did the person do?• What can I learn from the person?

A third way to study your Bible is to study words or concepts, such as prayer, peace, love, forgiveness, or even animals in the Bible. Select a word and find verses in the Bible that contain the word. A Bible concordance (a book listing all of the Bible words in alphabetical order) will help you.

Think about these questions as you study:• How is the word used?• What does the word mean in the verses?• What does the word mean to my life?

The more you read and study the Bible, the easier it will become to understand and apply to your life. Ask your parents if it is OK for you to underline or highlight verses in your Bible. You may also want to make notes about what you learn as you study.
