Session at a Glance
Have you ever been to a dinner party where there was not enough food for everyone? How did you feel? How do you think the host felt? •Read John 6:1-3. What attracted the people to
Jesus? What attracted you to Him? In what ways has He met your needs? What needs did the people following Jesus want Him to meet?
•Read verses 4-7. How would you have responded to Jesus' question? How do you think Jesus responded to Philip's response? How do you think Philip felt watching the events unfold?
•Read verses 8-9. How do you think Andrew located the child? Place yourself in the boy's position. How would you feel watching Jesus use your lunch to feed everyone? In what ways has God used something of yours to bless other people?
•Read verses 10-13. Imagine the faces of the disciples and others as Jesus began distributing the bread and fish. Notice, Jesus not only had enough food, He had leftovers. In what ways has God blessed you with so much you knew there were "leftovers"? Why did Jesus instruct the disciples to gather the leftovers? What does the existence of leftovers tell you about Jesus' power?
•Reflect on your needs. In what ways has Jesus not only met your needs, but exceeded what you needed? What did you do with the "leftovers"?
•Think about the children in your ministry. What needs do the children have? How can you teach the children to trust God to meet their needs?

A Miracle of FoodBased on John 6:1-13
(Can 1) Jesus crossed the Sea of Galilee. A huge crowd followed Him because they saw how He had healed people.
(Can 2) Jesus went up on a mountainside and sat down with His disciples.
(Can 3) Jesus saw the people coming toward Him. He asked Philip, "Where can we buy food to feed these people?" Jesus knew what He was going to do, but He wanted to test Philip.
(Can 4) Philip said, "Two hundred denarii (more than a half a year's pay) would not buy enough bread to feed all of these people just a little."
Week of February 10, 2013
(Can 5) Andrew, another disciple, said, "Here is a boy with his lunch. He has five loaves of barley bread and two fish. That is not enough food to feed all of these people."
(Can 6) Jesus told the disciples to have the people sit down. The people obeyed. About 5,000 men were in the crowd (not counting the women and children).
(Can 7) Jesus took the bread, thanked God, and served it to the people. Then Jesus did the same thing with the fish. The people ate as much as they wanted.
(Can 8) After the people finished eating, Jesus told His disciples to collect the leftovers. The disciples collected 12 baskets full of bread.
(Can 9) The people were amazed at the miracle. They said, "This Man really is the Prophet sent to save the world."
(Can 10) Jesus knew the people were about to force Him to become their king, so He left the people and went to a mountain by Himself.
