July 30, 2012 NYCC Sailing Newsletter • 7001 hampton blvd • norfolk, va 23505• 423.4500 We are just starting the last week of camp and have had five fantastic weeks of sailing, sun and fun so lets hope it holds out for a few more days. Last Thursdays all of the kids from this session and some returnees took a morning field trip to the American Rover and had a blast helping out on the three masted schooner. Thanks to Brook Smith for that great opportunity. Beginner Class With a smaller number of beginners than previous sessions this group has made great progress in their first few days. Their goal for the next week is to all sail solo in time for the Wednesday night regatta. Intermediate Class The intermediates continue to work on their boat handling, race starts and race tactics while also taking some time out to do some adventure sailing. They will use their improving skills in what will hopefully be a tightly contested end to the Wednesday night regatta series which unfortunately had to be abandoned last week due to a lack of wind. Sloops Class The sloop group this session consists of some beginners, some day sailors and some opti racers looking to get a head start on high school sailing. They keep things interesting by mixing racing and cruising and switch up partners to get used to sailing with different people. SAILING N e w s l e t t e r We have a busy last week ahead of us with Captain Frank Moseley coming in to talk to the sailors and parents on Tuesday between 11 and 12. Participants from all sessions are welcome to come along. We will have the final Wednesday night regatta of the series kicking off at about 5pm and then Thursday is the annual banquet so make sure y'all register with the Front Desk.
