Around 5:30 a.m., Irvine Park- er White, 39, was traveling south on Hwy. 79 north of Davis Road in a 2001 Chevy SUV when the vehicle drove straight through a curve and left the roadway for un- known reasons, according Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Dan Buesing. Upon the leaving the roadway, the SUV rolled over several times and the driver, who was not wear- ing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle. Archer County Sheriff’s Office, Archer City Volunteer Fire De- partment, Archer City Ambulance and DPS all responded to the scene, according to the ACSO’s call records. A request for an Air Evac helicopter was made before the call was cancelled a few min- utes later. The county also reported its first COVID-19 related fatality. The judge said the fatality was an 80 year old male who also had some underlying health issues. As long as the county has less than 20 active cases it will remain exempt from GA-29 Order which mandates facial coverings in pub- lic spaces where social distancing is not possible. Windthorst ISD Superinten- dent Lonnie Hise confirmed the district had one employee and two students with active COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday, Sept. 8. He added the individuals were wait- ing returns of another test before a potential return to the campus. Archer City ISD Superinten- dent CD Knobloch said he was unaware of any COVID-19 cases in the district as of Tuesday, Sept. 8. Holliday ISD Superintendent Cody Carrol said the district still has one active case in the high school. Archer City Mayor Kelvin Green released a press release on See Update, Page 4 Early voting begins Sept. 14 for special election By Jerry Phillips The election calendar for 2020 has been full of party primaries and there is a lot of anticipation as the Nov. 3 General Election ap- proaches. However, Governor Ab- bott, by Special Order, has estab- lished an additional election day to fill the seat vacated by District 30 State Senator Pat Fallon. Fal- lon resigned to run for a U.S. Con- gressional Representative office. The six candidates running for the position are Drew Springer, Chris Watts, Craig Carter, Andy Hopper, Shelly Luther and Jacob Minter. Early voting for the Special Election will begin next Monday, Sept. 14. Early voting will con- tinue through September 18 and resume on Sept. 21. The last day for early voting will be September 25. Early voting is available in three locations. They are Archer County Courthouse Annex, 112 E. Walnut, Archer City; Holliday City Hall, 110 W. Olive, Holli- day; and Lakeside City Municipal Building, 42 Donna Street, Lake- side City. Early voting locations are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. September 29 Special Election day voting will be available in six locations. According to Archer Coun- ty Emergency Management Coordinator Shane Wright, an unmarked truck was carrying a tarped object which was leaking an unknown gas that led to the hazmat team from Wichita Falls being called to the scene. Wright said the scene was closed off at nearly a half mile each way and traffic was re- routed through Holliday until the team could determine the substance. He said the hazmat team was able to determine the tarped object was an MRI ma- chine which was being trans- ported and it was leaking heli- um, a non-toxic gas. According to the Archer County Sheriff’s Report, the Archer County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, Holliday Police Depart- ment, Constable Doug Strange, Wright, Holliday Volunteer Fire Department, Lakeside City Volunteer Fire Department, Bowman Volunteer Fire De- partment and Texas Department of Transportation all worked the scene. The scene was cleared at 1:09 a.m. Tuesday, Wednesday Sept. 3. No injuries were report- ed from the rollover. One dies in Hw y. 79 Aug. 31 rol lover

An Abilene man died in a Mon-day, Aug. 31, morning single ve-hicle rollover just north of Archer City.

Around 5:30 a.m., Irvine Park-er White, 39, was traveling south on Hwy. 79 north of Davis Road in a 2001 Chevy SUV when the vehicle drove straight through a curve and left the roadway for un-known reasons, according Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Dan Buesing.

COVID -19 update

Archer County Judge Randy Jackson announced the county had 60 positive cases with seven of them being active in a press re-lease Tuesday, Sept. 8. The county also reported its first COVID-19 related fatality.

The judge said the fatality was an 80 year old male who also had some underlying health issues.

As long as the county has less than 20 active cases it will remain exempt from GA-29 Order which mandates facial coverings in pub-lic spaces where social distancing is not possible.

The election calendar for 2020 has been full of party primaries and there is a lot of anticipation as the Nov. 3 General Election ap-proaches. However, Governor Ab-bott, by Special Order, has estab-lished an additional election day to fill the seat vacated by District 30 State Senator Pat Fallon. Fal-lon resigned to run for a U.S. Con-gressional Representative office.

The six candidates running for the position are Drew Springer, Chris Watts, Craig Carter, Andy Hopper, Shelly Luther and Jacob Minter.

Early voting for the Special Election will begin next Monday, Sept. 14. Early voting will con-tinue through September 18 and resume on Sept. 21. The last day for early voting will be September 25. A hazmat team was called after a truck rolled over on U.S. 82 just west of FM 368 near Holliday around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1.
