The need for specialist advice and guidance has never been greater and young people are clear that they value a face-to-face service provided by a professional careers adviser. Changes in the qualifi cations framework, pathways into employment, the number of young people in the cohort and the labour market, set against diffi cult economic conditions, create challenges and uncertainty for young people.

Young people are at the heart of everything we do. We are passionate about the contribution that we can make towards their achievement and that drives us to seek continuous improvement. Our Careers Advisers are highly professional, carefully selected, qualifi ed to QCF level 6, CRB checked and extremely reliable.

We aim to work in partnership with all types of schools and colleges (including independents and special schools). We tailor the support that we offer, understanding and responding to schools’ needs by delivering an increasingly rich range of activities.

As a not-for-profi t company and a registered charity, we have opportunities to lever in additional resources through our local, regional and national work. We will continue to bid for additional funding for work to support our offer – a direct benefi t for partner schools.

We are happy to talk to you about any of the products and services in this brochure and can work with you to tailor a package that suits the particular needs of your school or college.

‘Careers Advice’ is Advizza’s careers service to sschools and colleges. Advviza is a charity inspiring people to make better decisions that heelp them progress in leearnning and work. OOur purpose and our passsion is to deliver high qquality support to young people and others mmaking important decisioons in their lives, especially those who are vulnerrable.

We deliver a range of projects on behalf of local authorities, other public bodies and charities. Some of these projects target particular groups who may require more support than others to move their lives forward. We offer professional careers services which are bought by local authorities, state-funded and independent secondary schools. We also sell one-to-one careers guidance sessions direct to young people, graduates and parents/carers, with a bursary scheme in place for those who cannot afford to pay. We have a track record of providing high quality careers guidance services which goes back many years.

We are good at what we do and this is recognised in the feedback we receive from schools and colleges, young people and parents.

TThe Education Act 2011 changed the responsibilities of schools, colleges and local aauthorities for the provisioon of careers guidancee. It set out the new leegislative framework that gives schools greater freedom and fl exibilitty to exercise their proofesssional judgement in determining the most aappropriate careers guidance for their pupilss.

Local authorities are no longer required to provide universal careers services to young people and schools now have a duty to secure and fund access to independent careers guidance for their pupils. The act states that: face-to-face careers advice and guidance must be provided by someone who is not employed by the school and be presented in an impartial manner, to include all options available. From September 2013 this duty covers Years 8 to 13, including young people in colleges.

There is a range of Government guidance available to help you meet your responsibilities which our staff are happy to talk you through. We are fully conversant with the current quality monitoring arrangements such as Ofsted and destination measures and can help provide you with evidence to meet these requirements.

TThe continuing role of the loccal authorityLocal authorities retain their statutory duty to ‘encourage, enable or assist young people’s participation in education and training’. They also continue to support vulnerable young people to engage in education and training, intervening early with those at risk of disengagement.

Local authorities also retain their duty under section 139A of the Learning and Skills Act 2000. This places local authorities under a duty to arrange for an assessment to be conducted for all persons in respect of whom they maintain a statement of Special Educational Needs and who they expect to leave school at 16 - 19 to receive post-16 education, training or higher education.
