Post-Communion Prayer

COLLECT

Almighty God, whose Son revealed in signs and miracles the wonder of your saving

presence: renew your people with your heavenly grace, and in all our weakness sustain us

by your mighty power; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns

with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

Or ADDITIONAL COLLECT

God of all mercy your Son proclaimed good news to the poor, release to the captives, and

freedom to the oppressed: anoint us with your Holy Spirit and set all your people free to

praise you in Christ our Lord.

FIRST READING Isaiah 9.1–4

There will be no gloom for those who were in anguish. In the former time he brought into

contempt the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the latter time he will make

glorious the way of the sea, the land beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations. The people

who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who lived in a land of deep

darkness – on them light has shined. You have multiplied the nation, you have increased

its joy; they rejoice before you as with joy at the harvest, as people exult when dividing

plunder. For the yoke of their burden, and the bar across their shoulders, the rod of their

oppressor, you have broken as on the day of Midian.

SECOND READING 1 Corinthians 1.10–18

I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you

be in agreement and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the

same mind and the same purpose. For it has been reported to me by Chloe’s people that

there are quarrels among you, my brothers and sisters. What I mean is that each of you

says, ‘I belong to Paul,’ or ‘I belong to Apollos,’ or ‘I belong to Cephas,’ or ‘I belong to Christ.’

Has Christ been divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of

Paul? I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius, so that no one can

say that you were baptized in my name. I did baptize also the household of Stephanas;

beyond that, I do not know whether I baptized anyone else. For Christ did not send me to

baptize but to proclaim the gospel, and not with eloquent wisdom, so that the cross of

Christ might not be emptied of its power. For the message about the cross is foolishness

to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

PRAYER REQUESTS: If you would like prayer for yourself or someone you know, clergy pray daily

for those who have asked for our prayers. Anyone may put a name on our prayer list by

contacting the clergy, a Reader, or the parish office. If you wish to be prayed for publicly at our

Sunday Services please say so, otherwise your name remains on the clergy daily prayer list.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM 127

The Lord is my light and my salvation whom then shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom then shall I be afraid?

One thing have I asked of the Lord; one thing I seek; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life; To behold the fair beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.

For in the day of trouble he shall keep me safe in his shelter; He shall hide me in the secrecy of his dwelling and set me high upon a rock.

Even now he lifts up my head above my enemies round about me; Therefore I will offer in his dwelling an oblation with sounds of great gladness; I will sing and make music to the Lord.

Hear my voice, O Lord, when I call: have mercy upon me and answer me. My heart tells of your word, Seek my face. your face, Lord, will I seek.

Hide not your face from me: nor cast your servant away in displeasure. You have been my helper: leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation.

GOSPEL Matthew 4.12–23

When Jesus heard that John had been arrested, he withdrew to Galilee. He left Nazareth

and made his home in Capernaum by the sea, in the territory of Zebulun and Naphtali, so

that what had been spoken through the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: ‘Land of Zebulun,

land of Naphtali, on the road by the sea, across the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles – the

people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, and for those who sat in the region and

shadow of death light has dawned.’ From that time Jesus began to proclaim, ‘Repent, for

the kingdom of heaven has come near.’ As he walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two

brothers, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the lake –

for they were fishermen. And he said to them, ‘Follow me, and I will make you fish for

people.’ Immediately they left their nets and followed him. As he went from there, he saw

two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John, in the boat with their

father Zebedee, mending their nets, and he called them. Immediately they left the boat and

their father, and followed him. Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues

and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and curing every disease and every

sickness among the people.

POST COMMUNION

Almighty Father, whose Son our Saviour Jesus Christ is the light of the world: may your

people, illumined by your word and sacraments, shine with the radiance of his glory, that

he may be known, worshipped, and obeyed to the ends of the earth; for he is alive and

reigns, now and for ever.

ALL SAINTS' LOCAL MINISTRY DEVELOPMENT TEAM exists to support every

member of our church family in:

enabling people to encounter God in worship and prayer

encouraging and teaching people to grow as His disciples

equipping people to live as Christians in the community.

Prayer ministry is available after the 11.00am Worship Service Emergency Prayer Chain: [email protected]

MORNING OF PRAYER in the church on Saturday 1 February, 10am—1.00pm as we

approach a new round of advertising and (hopefully) interview(s) to appoint a new

associate vicar. There will be an opportunity to pray in a variety of ways, as we ask God to

give us fresh vision for this new stage in the life of All Saints. Your presence will be greatly

appreciated.

ALL SAINTS CHURCH and the District Wardens would like to offer our sincerest thanks to

Kirsty Hollywood who has managed hall bookings for the past year. Unfortunately Kirsty's

situation has changed since she took on the role and she is unable to continue in the role

long term. We consider the hall to be part of the outreach of the church to the community

and this role is fundamental to allowing this to continue. We are therefore looking for a

member of the congregation who could take over this responsibility. If you think that this

could be you, please come and talk to one of the wardens, Elizabeth, Pete or Goetz who

can give you more details.

ALL SAINTS VACANCY: We will continue to be praying for all those involved in the appointment of the new All Saints Associate Vicar and for all those affected by the vacancy. The next meeting will be on Monday evening 3 February at 7.30 at my house in Springfield Crescent. We welcome everybody who can come. If you are interested in praying at another time please get in touch with me. Thank you to the people who aren’t free to come but are also praying. For more information please contact Rosemary Hill 01582 761322 or [email protected].

THE DCC would like to thank all those who returned the forms relating to proposed weekend away. Given that we are still recruiting for an Associate Vicar, the DCC have concluded that it would be sensible to wait for an appointment to be made, before progressing the weekend away. If you would like to discuss further, please speak to any member of the DCC.

Please follow & interact with our Parish via twitter or facebook,

ST GEORGE’S SCHOOL APPLICATIONS

Children intending to apply to St George's Secondary School are advised to submit a clergy

reference form with their application. The school gives priority to children with a clergy reference.

To ensure this can be given, a Record of Attendance should be completed for 2 years before

application . The School website provides further details of the admissions criteria. The school will

consider applications without a clergy reference but through a separate admissions category.

CONTACTLESS GIVING is now available at St Nicholas. The small, self-service device is at the back of church allowing donations to be made via contactless card and/or phone (Apple Pay etc). This is a quick and easy way to donate on your way into or out of church. If you are not currently giving by another method, or are visiting us today, please consider using this new method. Any questions, please ask Claire Petevinos (768721)
