Rotomoulding

• Pushing the boundaries further each year.

• More intricate shapes

• Tougher environments

• Increased mechanical properties

Higher temperatures

Higher temperatures

What do we mean by this?

Example:

Starting an engine, the longer it runs the

hotter the area around it and in turn it effects

other components near by.

Also when stopping and engine all the air

flow stops and at this time the temperature

increases for a short while?

Service temperature

2 types of service temperatures

• Maximum peak temperature indicates the maximum

temperature at which a material can be used for a very short

period of time. Above this temperature, the strength and properties

of the material rapidly decrease.

• Continuous service temperature is defined as the highest

temperature at which a material can function for an extended

period of time without failing.

Service temperature

• Service temperature is dependant upon many factors. Therefore

assigning a service temperature to any plastic should be taken with care.

• Few examples that might influence real-life service temperature of

plastics

• Duration

• Presence of water

• Transformation parameters

• Additives / fillers in polymers matrix

• Load/pressure applied

• Presence of chemical agent

• Temperature cycle applied

• Polymers chemistry …
