“My favorite part about Greek life is the huge support system, not only within my own sorority, but within the whole Greek

Community. I also love Greek Life because of the life long friendships you can make. .” - Jessica Amberman, Delta Zeta

Major: Chemistry, May 2017

Positions held: Treasurer

Goal as President: To promote positivity and help each girl realize her potential to be a leader. To me, one of the most important things about being in a sorority is gaining social and leadership skills that can be used later in life, discovering your voice, and learning to stand up for what you believe in.

Best memory in Greek Life so far: My favorite memory so far is joining and going through the new member process for Delta Zeta. I met so many people and some of my best friends during that time.

Favorite Quote: “A bird sitting on

a tree branch is never afraid of the

branch breaking, because her trust is

not on the branch but on it's own

wings. Always believe in yourself.”

ALUMNAE SHANNON BAILEY SHARES HOW

GREEK LIFE SHAPED HER SUCCESS

Shannon Bailey, an alumnae member of Sigma Sigma Sigma graduated from Shepherd in 2011 with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Graphic Design. For as long as she can remember, Shannon was always involved in Art. She grew up attending various prestigious summer programs and achieving awards and distinctions. While at Shepherd, Shannon became a member of the American Institute of Graphic Arts and designed for the school paper, The Picket.

Since graduating, Shannon has had a successful journey navigating and advancing in her profession. She obtained her first job right after college working at a conference preceding company where she worked to create websites as well as conference education apps. On the side, she freelanced for local bands and the 98 rock radio station in Baltimore, MD. After a couple years she moved to the next step in career and accepted a job as the graphic designer for DuClaw Brewing Company, a Baltimore craft brewery. Throughout her time at DuClaw, she advanced to the position of Creative Director and managed the creative team. She worked to design the beer labels that are sold throughout the east coast as well as doing the menus, drink books, sampler packs, and posters. Most recently, Shannon has made the career move to Planit Agency in the heart of Baltimore, MD. Here she is working to create ads for clients such as Under Armor, DeWalt, Marriot, and Dicks Sporting Goods.

Shannon states, “Greek life has tremendously impacted my career path. Thanks to the support of my sisters I gained confidence in myself. Community service helped me become better at managing my time and understanding how important it is to make time for others. Also, being on the officer board as Vice President, forced me to get over my fear of speaking in public. I learned how to schedule and run important meetings, I became better at making difficult decisions, and received valuable networking skills. All which are necessary in a work environment and used on a daily basis. Being in a Greek organization didn't just give me life skills, but also lifelong friends. And, I think if you are happy in life you will find success wherever you go.”

The picture on the left shows Shannon’s current place of work, Planit Agency. The photo
