What do you like to do at the park?
Parks are important to
people of all ages.
For nature study,
recreation, and solitude

Earliest parks were private gardens that had
entrance fees
1891 :
Washington
and Sheridan
Parks added.
Grant Park
and a nursery
to grow new
trees was
created in
1915.
Civil Conservation Corp (CCC) built this
waterfall in 1935 to create Mallard Lake
• Wehr Nature Center was completed in 1974.
• We need to protect the trees and wildlife from invasive plants.
• Wehr and other parks supports birds,
fox, and the Butler’s Garter Snake.
• People pressure,
making too many
volunteer trails.
• Pollution
• Invasive plants
The wild turkey needs
seeds from wildflowers
and trees along with
insects.
Garlic Mustard is an invasive
problem in the forest
Scientists found a beetle that will help
control this plant in the forest.
Lesser Celadine is an invasive
problem in the forest.
The wildflowers we want to protect
include buttercup.
Can you see a difference?
Dames Rocket is an invasive
problem in the forest.
Trilliums, Jack in the pulpit and
twinleaf are flowers to protect.
Taking the garlic mustard and lesser celandine
out of the forest in spring is most effective.
Plant native plants Young plants flagged to be sure to
water them and watch them grow.

takes the place of food favorite
shrubs and young trees.
A weed wrench can be helpful to
remove older buckthorn in the fall.
