SERVICE #1: “HIRE A SCORPION” SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGN
This is a sample of the social media template. Follow us @NSCCareer on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn.
(Note: these posts may also be shared by the college’s main social media accounts.)
Are you graduating in May 2020 or August 2020 and looking for employment? The Career Services Center will
be featuring May 2020 and August 2020 graduates on our social media channels (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook
and LinkedIn @NSCCareer) to help connect our graduates to employers and opportunities! If you’d like to
participate, you will first need to create or update your LinkedIn profile. (Please email [email protected] if you
need help with your LinkedIn profile – Subject Line: LinkedIn Help.)
STEP 1: CREATE OR UPDATE YOUR LINKEDIN PROFILE
Creating a LinkedIn account is free (do not pay for a premium account) – simply go to www.linkedin.com on a
desktop computer and register for an account. Once you’ve created an account, create a professional LinkedIn
profile (a LinkedIn profile is similar to a virtual resume) using the LinkedIn Profile Checklist found at the end of
this document. Referencing the LinkedIn Profile Checklist, please include the following in your LinkedIn profile:
1. A nice clear headshot of you.
2. A brief summary of your experiences and skillsets.
3. Your education – list your college, major and year you graduated
4. List your experiences (work, internship, research, volunteer, organizations, etc.)
5. Connect with at least 10 other individuals on LinkedIn (connect with your professors, classmates,
advisors, supervisors, etc.). Having connections on LinkedIn is important!
6. Customize your LinkedIn URL. To do this,
2
o Click the Me icon at the top right of your LinkedIn homepage.
o Click View profile.
o Click Edit public profile and URL on the right rail.
o Under Edit your custom URL in the right rail, click the Edit icon next to your public profile URL.
o Type the last part of your new custom URL in the text box.
o Click Save.
7. Make sure your LinkedIn profile is free of spelling and grammatical errors.
8. If you fail to complete these guidelines, you may not be featured as part of this campaign.
9. If you need assistance with your LinkedIn profile, please email [email protected].

STEP 2: COMPLETE A SHORT SURVEY
Next, complete this short survey by clicking HERE. Otherwise, go to www.bit.ly/hireascorpion2020.
Please note you will be asked to upload a professional headshot of yourself as part of the survey. (If you don’t
have a nice headshot, ask a family member to take one for you on your phone while you are dressed
professionally. Make sure to smile!)
By completing and submitting the survey, you give the Career Services Center permission to post your picture and
responses to social media.
Disclaimer: If you fail to follow instructions, you will not be featured as part of the Hire a Scorpion campaign,
the Resume E-Book, and/or the Congrats NSC Grad campaign. The Career Services Center has the right to not
use a submission at their own discretion. Participating in a service does NOT guarantee employment offers. If
you need assistance with your job search, please schedule an appointment by emailing [email protected].
LinkedIn Profile Checklist
PHOTO: It doesn't have to be fancy - just
use your cellphone camera in front of a plain
background. Wear a nice shirt and don't
forget to smile!
HEADLINE: Tell people what you're
excited about now and the cool things you
want to do in the future.
SUMMARY: Describe what motivates
you, what you're skilled at, and what's next.
EXPERIENCE: List the jobs you held,
even if they were part-time, along with what
you accomplished at each. Even include
photos and videos from your work.
ORGANIZATIONS: Have you joined
any clubs at school or outside? Be sure to
describe what you did with each organization.
Continued >>
NSC GRADS: At minimum, complete/update the following sections in red on your LinkedIn profile.
EDUCATION: Starting with college, list
all the educational experiences you've had - including summer programs.
VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE & CAUSES:
Even if you weren't paid for a job, be sure to
list it. Admissions officers and employers
often see volunteer experience as just as
valuable as paid work.
SKILLS & EXPERTISE: Add at least 5
key skills - and then your connections can
endorse you for the things you're best at.
HONORS & AWARDS: If you earned a
prize in or out of school, don't be shy. Let the
world know about it!
COURSES: List the classes that show
off the skills and interests you're most
excited about.
PROJECTS: Whether you led a team
assignment in school or built an app on your
own, talk about what you did and how you did it.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Ask managers,
professors, or classmates who've worked with you
closely to write a recommendation. This gives
extra credibility to your strengths and skills.
