Goals for the Business Meeting and Colloquium

– Reconnect and reboot:• Been 2 years

– SERU AAU: 5 years• Showcase usefulness for both academic

research on higher education policy and for institutional research purposes—not mutually exclusive. There is a reason why we joined a research consortium.

– My goal? Is to listen!

SERU AAU Operations and transition update 2013-2014

• U of M has had de facto management duties with CSHE– Informal agreement

• Negotiations between CSHE and U of M during the past year.

• Transitions– Managerial and administrative duties

• 5 year agreement—we are in it for the long haul

– Research duties• CSHE retains lead role in research

• Collaborative governance model– Encourage more participation in decision

making– Structural framework for building a sustainable

operation for the long term • Budget transparency and accountability

Budget• Current AAU undergraduate survey

– FY2015 – All fees stay the same as FY14– Current contracts honored– Future – Will need to account for inflation

• FY16 -- $22,600• FY17 -- $23,340• FY18 -- $24,000

– Intent is to cover costs and provide for research and future development

– Get all institutions on a the same fee schedule

• AAU Graduate survey– Pilot in 2014-15– University of Minnesota, University of Virginia, and CSHE are funding

the pilot jointly– Future – Costs to be determined based on pilot

• International survey– Run as a separate but associated effort

Membership Contracts

• New contracts will be needed with the University of Minnesota

• University of Minnesota will honor all current contract terms• Intent is to mimic current University of California contracts

– 3 year terms– Defined and fixed annual fee amount– Provision for custom campus module– Termination clauses

• University of Minnesota will deliver new contracts ASAP• Graduate survey issues

Meanwhile….during this transition…much has been done– Reduced the Undergraduate SERU by 19%

• First year fruits of the Design and Content work group efforts

• 2014 Undergraduate SERU administration to 11 institutions

– Developed pilot Graduate SERU Survey– New International Student Experience Module

and expanded Study abroad items– AP tool expansion for longitudinal analysis;

selection of year and institution by program (with 2014 data - over half a million student responses in data base)
