The Core Value of Mission
~ 2 Corinthians 5:14-21 ~
For the love of Christ controls us…
2 Corinthians 5:14
“I thank him who has given me strength, Christ Jesus our Lord, because
he judged me faithful appointing me to his service, even though
formerly I was a blasphemer, persecutor, and insolent opponent.
~ The Apostle Paul in 1 Timothy 1:12-14
“But I received mercy because I acted
ignorantly in unbelief, and the grace of our Lord
overflowed for me with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.”
~ The Apostle Paul in 1 Timothy 1:12-14
But as I ran my hell bound race Indifferent to the cost
You looked upon my helpless state and led me to the Cross
And I beheld God’s love displayed You suffered in my place
You bore the wrath reserved for me Now all I know is grace
For the love of Christ controls us,
2 Corinthians 5:14
because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, thereforeall have died….
“For Christ also suffered once for
sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring
us to God….”
~ The Apostle Peter in 1 Peter 3:18
…and he died for all, that those
2 Corinthians 5:15
who live might no longer live forthemselves but for him who fortheir sake died and was raised.
“For whoever would save his life will lose it, but
who ever loses his life for my sake will find it. For
what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a
man give in return for his soul?”
~ Jesus of Nazareth in The Gospel of John 10:10
All this is from God, who through
2 Corinthians 5:18
Christ has reconciled us to him-self and gave us the ministry of reconciliation….
I once was lost in darkest night yet thought I knew the way
The sin that promised joy and life had led me to the grave
I had no hope that you would own a rebel to your will
And if you had not loved me first I would refuse you still
All this is from God, who through
2 Corinthians 5:18
Christ has reconciled us to him-self and gave us the ministry of reconciliation….
…that is, in Christ God was reconci-

ling the world to himself, not countingtheir trespasses against them…,
…that is, in Christ God was reconci-

ling the world to himself, not countingtheir trespasses against them, andentrusting to us the message of reconciliation.
“The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full
acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the
world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost.
~ The Apostle Paul in 1 Timothy 1:15-16
“But I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience as an example to those who
were to believe in him for eternal life.”
~ The Apostle Paul in 1 Timothy 1:15-16
Therefore, we are ambassadors
2 Corinthians 5:20
for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled toGod.
We value mission because God has entrusted us with
the ministry of reconciliation.
Main Idea
Be reconciled to God1
Live intentionally for Christ2
Christ died for me. Therefore,
I will live for him.
Adopt a missional mindset
3
It’s not so much that God has a mission for His church
but that He has a church for His mission.
“The best kept secret of Christian mission is
that the Bible lists a whole range of
activities that promote Christ to the world and draw others to
him.”
• prayer • financial partnerships • adorning the gospel • answering questions • daily conversation • public worship
