    Year: Pre-Intermediate/ Adolescents

    Context: My family and home

    Theme: Genders role in society

    Final Task: SS will give an oral presentation on How gender roles have changed in the last 40 years. For this theywill also present a poster related to the topic.

    Objectives: During this unit students will develop ability and knowledge necessary to use the language for different

    purposes such us learning new vocabulary; different types of house chores, contrast ideas between the past and the

    present in women and mens roles in the society. They will also recognize the notion and meaning of the word

    gender.

    Resources: markers, board, flashcards, pictures, a computer to watch video segments, texts related to the theme,

    comics, graphic organizers, timeline, photocopies, self-evaluation sheet, headphones or loud speakers, extra

    worksheets, bingo cards, domino, posters.

    Linguistic exponents: Present simple, past simple, used to, have to, daily routine, house chores.

    Language practices: to learn vocabulary related to the theme such as house-chores, daily routine verbs. To learn

    about the use of graphic organizers, such us a Venn diagram and a timeline. To record necessary information to use

    in these graphic organizers. Read and make the comprehension of different articles. They will also acquire useful

    language to give an oral presentation.

    DAY 1

    Preparation: The T will introduce each other with the SS and will also show them an initial assessment students

    form. The T will explain them the reason they will have to complete it. For this they will be given 30. Afterthese

    minutes the T will collect the forms and put them in an envelope. They will be anonymous and taken out to be read

    after class.

    Core task and Follow up: the T will show them several flashcards with different types of household chores.

    T will ask them: Do you recognize these verbs? What are they doing? Who does the household chores at home? Do

    you know any other? They will have to answer and guess the meaning of some pictures. At the same time she asks

    these questions to the SS, the T will draw this image on the board.

    WHO WRITES MORE???

    The T will explain the SS they will play a game called WHO WRITES MORE? in groups of six. They will copy

    the graphic the teacher drew on the board. The group which completes and writes more household chores on the

    graphic will be the winner. For this, they will be given 10.

    To finish the class the T will show them the flashcards again but now they will have to remember the meaning after

    having compared the graphics with the rest of the groups. The SS who guess more will get an extra point!

    DAY 2

    Preparation: The T will give the SS BINGO CARDS in order to recycle previous vocabulary.

    CORE TASK: The T will give the SS an extra WS in order to practice previous vocabulary and also to introduce

    some vocabulary related to household tool. They will have to complete it. (see households task file). After this, the T

    and the SS will have to check it orally.

    Follow up: The T will ask the class: Ok, what have we done in todays class? Tell me who waters the plants in

    your house? Does your dad use the broom to clean? When do you make your bed? Tell me 3 different households

    tools. Where do you put your food to conserve it? If you are asked to do 3 different households task, which ones

    would you choose?

    All these questions will be asked in order to make a WRAP-UP of the lesson.

    DAY 3

    PREPARATION: The T will ask SS in general: Who waters the plants in your house? Do your father and mother

    work? Can you tell me 2 household chores your mom does? Now tell me 2 tasks all the family performs at home.

    The T will write on the board these two question Who does mow the grass at home? and Who mows the grass at

    home?. She will ask SS to recognize which one of them is the correct question and why. In that way the T will

    explain SS that when we want to know the subject we dont use the auxiliary in the question.

    The T will write this formula on the board

    WH+ CONJ VERB+ ________? EX: Who cleans the bathroom at home? My mom.

    Core task: In this way the teacher will provide the SS a sheet with a sample of a Survey.

    In class SS will have to complete it with more house chores and the person who performs it.

    Follow Up: Once they finish with the survey, in pairs they will ask each other about the survey: Who does the

    washing up? My mother. And vice-versa. Then the T will ask them to write affirmative sentences on their folders

    according to the survey. EX: My mother does the washing up (in this way they are practicing the present simple)

    DAY 4

    Preparation: The T will ask the SS to take out the Survey they worked with the previous class. Then the teacher will

    tell them to take the percentage on the times their mum, dad and the family perform the house chores.

    Core task: The SS will be given a photocopy with the Venn diagram. The teacher will teach them how to work with

    it. They will have to write the chores that are not shared for the members in the survey in outer circles and the ones

    who are shared in the ones which are overlapped.

    orally sentences with the use of vocabulary previously given by the T, according on what they watched.

    Preparation: The T will stick a poster with the following images on it.

    The T will askthem to observe the images and to discuss some questions: Whats gender? / What do you think of

    women role in society? / What can you see in these pictures? / What factors can cause stress nowadays?/ Who does

    all the house chores in your home? /In your opinion, are men and women equal?/ What things can either men or

    women do that the other cannot do and why?

    Follow up: The T will ask them, Ok what have you learnt today? Are women and men equal? Why/why not? The

    the last 10 decades, and bring it for the following class.

    DAY 7

    Preparation: The teacher will ask the SS to show her the research they did for HW. Once she checked and collected

    all the information she will write this example on the board:

    My dad used to make barbeque ten years ago, but now he doesnt make it, he became vegetarian.

    The T will underline the word USED TO and will elicit some ideas. In this way SS will learn the use of USED TO to

    indicate an action in the past but no longer used in the present. She will ask SS to provide some oral examples.

    the tools on how to create a poster for the final task. For

    this they will see some ideas on posters provided by

    the teacher.

    As far as I remember

    Giving the necessary resources and tools for giving an oral presentation, the teacher will give them a period of time

    to do it in groups, collect, search and practice it. After 2 weeks they will have to give it in groups. They will be

    evaluated.

    The teacher will also tell them they will have a test the next lesson related to some themes on this unit.

    DAY 9

    Preparation: The T will show them this link so as the SS could do the test. They will be given one hour.
