forgiving yourself.

Introduction - Danae• We know we must forgive others but
sometimes there is an aspect of forgiveness that we often forget. • Forgiving ourselves is just as important as
forgiving those who offend us.Up Next: After all, how can we forgive others…
Introduction (Cont) Danae• After all, how can we forgive others when
we have bitterness towards ourselves.• We are often hard on ourselves thinking
that we deserve to suffer for allowing ourselves to fall into the offence.Up Next: In the process we allow self hatred…
Introduction (Cont.) - Danae
• In the process we allow self hatred and unworthiness to rule our lives. • There are 2 important steps to take
when forgiving ourselves.Up next: Step 1: We must acknowledge our shame
Step 1 - Danae
Step 1: We must acknowledge our shame• Shame – embarrassment, disgrace,
indignity, humiliation• We tend to pile shame on ourselves.
Up Next: Once we have forgiven the other person…
Step 1 (Cont.) - Danae• Once we have forgiven the other person
we tend to put on a mask hiding this unforgiveness and shame towards ourselves.
• Shame and condemnation are NOT from God. Up Next: John 3:17
Step 1 (Cont.) - Danae
John 3:17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.Up Next: Job 11:13-16
Job 11:13-16
“Yet if you devote your heart to him and stretch out your hands to him,if you put away the sin that is in your hand and allow no evil to dwell in your tent,
Job 11:13-16then, free of fault, you will lift up your face; you will stand firm and without fear. You will surely forget your trouble, recalling it only as waters gone by.
Up Next: Worth vs. Deserving
Step 1 (Cont.) - Danae
Worth vs. Deserving• Deserving: • “For all have sinned and fall short of the
glory of God” Romans 3:23
Up Next: Our sins have separated us from God.
Step 1 (Cont.) - Danae• Our sin separates us from God. (Isaiah
59:2)• We are all undeserving.

Worth:• To have worth means you have value.• God finds value in each of us!
Up Next: Step 2: Finding our worth in Christ
Step 2 (Cont.) - KellyStep 2: Finding our worth in Christ.• John 8:3-11 tells of an adulterous woman. The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group 4 and said to Jesus,
John 11:13-16 (Cont.)
“Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. 5 In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?” 6 They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him.
John 11:13-16 (Cont.)
But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.”
John 11:13-16 (Cont.) Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground. At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?”
John 11:13-16 (Cont.)“No one, sir,” she said.“Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.”
Up Next: Jesus stood up for her…
Step 2 (Cont.) - Kelly• Jesus stood up for her when everyone
wanted to condemn her.• The woman was worth his time.• Jesus deviated from his teaching time
because she was worth it to him.Up Next: Jesus pardoned her so it was easy…
Step 2 (Cont.) - Kelly
• This woman was teased, mocked and looked down upon.• Jesus pardoned her so it was easy for her to
forgive herself.
