SERGEI TUMASAbout the Producer/Artistic
Director
Sergei Tumas, a world-renowned tango dancer, produced and directed the “Tango Angelino” Show in 2005, which was performed at the historic Alex Theatre and received rave reviews in Los Angeles. Over the last several years, Maestro Tumas has choreographed such stage shows as Astor Piazzolla's rare US production of "Maria De Buenos Aires Operetta" in conjunction with the Long Beach Opera House. As the principle dancer, Sergei collaborated closely with the London-based director John Lloyd Davies and Nicola Bowie of the English National Opera. In Buenos Aires, Sergei partnered with renowned Guillermina Quiroga and performed in numerous prestigious theatres including the Teatro Colon. Last year Sergei participated in staging and directing the exclusive “Argentango” show which was presented by the Gloria Kauffman foundation. During this event Mrs. Kaufman’s charitable foundation donated 3.5 million dollars to Dr. Joseph W. Polisi, the president of the world famous Juilliard School of Arts.
Maestro Tumas has traveled worldwide, performing and teaching dance in many
countries, including Argentina, France, Austria, Russia, Spain, Greece, Germany, and the United States. In 2006 Sergei partnered with Zita Gonzales and toured the US with the show "Los Tangos," a production of the acclaimed “Forever Tango” show. Later that year, Sergei and Zita were chosen to dance as the soloist couple for the Julio Iglesias' World Tour. In the summer of 2008, Sergei Tumas and multiple world champion Liz Lira choreographed and performed with their tango company “TangomaniaX” to the music of Astor Piazzolla played by the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra at the Hollywood Bowl as well as performed in the nationally televised “Fiesta Argentina 2008”, at the legendary Ford Amphitheatre. In 2009, Maestro Sergei Tumas produced, directed and choreographed and principally danced with his partner Liz Lira in “Tango Nuevo Cabaret” show, a tribute to Astor Piazzolla, featuring legendary musicians and renowned dancers at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium for two glorious nights followed by his most recent production “Tango Ultimo” show at the Stars Theatre in Los Angeles, May 2010. In addition to his stage work, Sergei was recently featured in the national “GEICO TANGO” insurance commercial. Mr. Tumas has
choreographed for hollywood films and TV dance shows including “Dancing with the Stars” in which he taught
champions Mark Ballas and Shawn Johnson season 8, week 10 finals and Derek Hough and Nicole Scherzinger season 10, week 9 finals in DWTS on ABC Network. Maestro Sergei Tumas is proud ones again to Produce/Direct/Choreograph “Tango Nuevo Cabaret” show in partnership with the LA arts commission at the John Anson Ford Amphitheater coming October 8, 2011 season.
