INTRODUCTION
WelcometotheSeratoDJIntro1.0softwaremanual.
Serato DJ Intro is an integrated software and hardware system,designedtogivemusicselectorsandDJsnewkindsofcontrol.
UsingtheSeratoDJIntrosoftwareyoucanDJmusiconyourcomputerwith accurate control from a range of supported hardware. Simplyconnect your hardware to your computer, connect to your soundsystemandyou’reinaction.
ThismanualoffersgenericSeratoDJIntroSoftwareinformation.
Forhardwaresetup,controlortroubleshootinginformationpleaseseeyourhardwaremanual.
MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
Before software installation, please ensure your computer meetsthe minimum system requirements for the hardware controller youareusing.Youcanfindtheminimumspecificationsbycheckingyourhardwaremanualoryourhardwaremanufacturerswebsite.
NOTE: These are the minimum requirements to run Serato DJ Intro. For best performance and for use in professional situations we recommend you use a higher spec computer.

ToinstallSeratoDJIntro:- Browse using Finder to the location where the Serato DJ Introdownloadwassaved.-DoubleclicktheSeratoDJIntrozipfiletounpack.-Accepttheenduserlicenseagreement
-Then,doubleclickthe.dmgfiletomounttheimageonyoursystem,andbrowsetothatvolume-Dragthefilenamed,“SeratoDJIntro”totheApplicationsfolderaliaslocatedintheDiscImage.

YoucannowrunSeratoDJIntrofromyourApplicationsfolder,ordragtheapplicationtoyourdockforquickaccess.

STARTING THE SOFTWARE
MAC OS X
SeratoDJIntrowillbeinstalledtoyourapplicationsfolder.
Double click the Serato DJ Intro icon in the applications folder tolaunch.Foreasylaunchingyoucanclickanddragthisicontothedock.
WINDOWS

NOTE: Connect your hardware before you open Serato DJ Intro. When Serato DJ Intro launches it will automatically detect your hardware. Successful detection will result in you seeing this screen with “virtual decks”:

1 Playhead:Showsplayheadpositiononthewaveformoverviewofthetrack.
2 HorizontalMode:ChangesDisplayModetoshowhorozontalwaveforms.

4 Pitch:Appliedpitchoffsetasapercentage(%)(determinedbythepositionofthePITCHFADER).

ADDING FILES TO THE SERATO DJ INTRO LIBRARY
The easiest way to load music into your library is by using the Filesbutton:
1.Clickon theFILESbutton toopen thefilespanel.The left sideofthis window displays various locations on your computer hard drive(andexternaldrivesifyouconnectedone).Clickontheselocationstonavigate your computer and find your music. By default, your musicwillusuallybefoundineither“Music”(Mac)or“MyMusic”(Windows).2.Onceyouhavelocatedyourmusic,dragthefolderorfilesyouwanttoimportontothepurple“All...”icon.Thisislocatedtotheleftofyourscreenatthetopofthecratesandplaylistwindow.If you wish to import all of your music, just drag your whole musicfolderontothisicon.ThiswillimportanycompatiblefilecontainedinthismasterfolderfromyourharddriveintotheSeratoDJIntroLibrary.
TIP: You can also import by dragging files and folders directly from Windows Explorer (PC version) or Finder (Mac version) into the Serato DJ Intro library.
Loadafiletoeitherdeckfromthefilespanelwillautomaticallyaddittoyourlibrary.
TIP: Dragging a folder into the crates view will instantly create a crate.

EXTERNAL HARD DRIVES
Anyexternalharddriveconnectedtoyourcomputerwillshowinthefilespanel.Youcanaddfilestoyourlibraryfromanexternaldrivejustlikeyouwoulddowhenimportingfromtheinternalharddriveofyourcomputer.IftheexternalharddriveisnotconnectedwhenyourunSeratoDJIntroanyfilesaddedfromthisdrivewillnotdisplayinyourlibrary.
Thelibraryinformationforfilesonyourexternaldriveisstoredontheexternaldriveitself.Thismeansifyouaddtracksonanexternaldrivetoyourlibraryandthenplugthatexternaldriveintoanothermachinerunning Serato DJ Intro, the crates and tracks will automatically bevisibleintheothermachine’slibrary.
SHOWING YOUR ITUNES LIBRARY
SeratoDJ Introcan importyour iTunes™libraryallowingyoutoplayyouriTunesmusicandaccessplaylists.Toenablethisfeaturegotothesetupscreen,openthelibrarytabandchecktheshowiTuneslibrarybox.
NOTE: The iTunes library can now be minimized by pressing the small triangle in the blue iTunes folder icon.
HOW TO GET MUSIC FROM CDS INTO ITCH
SeratoDJIntrodoesnothaveaCDrippingfunction.Wesuggestyouusea3rdpartyapplicationtoconvertyouraudioCDsintoasuitablefiletypeforSeratoDJIntro.Werecommend320kbpsMP3filesforagoodbalanceofaudioqualityandfilesize.
NOTE: We recommend ripping your CDs rather than playing from them directly.

IMPORTING MUSIC

OFFLINE PLAYER
The offline player is a useful tool for preparing crates, auditioningtracks,andsettingcuepoints.Theofflineplayerisavailablewhenyourhardware is not connected, and outputs through the current defaultaudiodevice.
Loada track to theofflineplayerbydragginganddroppingonto theofflineplayerorbypressingshift+leftarrow.If theendoftheloadedtrackisreached,thenexttrackinthecurrentplaylistwillautomaticallyplaynext.
MASTER GAIN
UsethemasteroutputknobtoadjustthevolumeofmasteroutputofSeratoDJIntrointheOfflinePlayer.
ANALYZING FILES
The analyze files function processesthe tracks in your library to detect file
corruption,preparethewaveformoverviews,andifenabledcalculateBPMvalues.
ItisrecommendedthatusersanalyzetheirfilesbeforeplayingtheminSeratoDJIntro.
NOTE: When hardware is connected, Auto BPM is in effect. Keep this checked if you wish to have new tracks analyzed with these values when dragging files to a deck.
HOW TO ANALYZE FILES
To analyze your files open Serato DJ Intro with your hardwaredisconnected. You will see the analyze files button, click this toautomaticallyanalyzeallthetracksinyourlibrary.
PREPARING YOUR FILES
TIP: You can also drag and drop individual folders, crates and files onto the button to analyze small or specific groups of files at a time.
RE-ANALYZE FILES
Previouslyanalyzedtrackscanbere-analyzedbydraggingthetrack,selectionoftracksorentireCratetotheAnalyzeFilesbutton.
ToforceSeratoDJIntrotore-analyzeALLfilesinyourlibrary,holdctrlwhileclickingontheanalyzefilesbutton.
NOTE: The Analyze Files rules apply with Set Auto BPM.
SET AUTO BPM
Ifthisoptionischecked,SeratoDJIntrowillcalculatetheBPMandaddthevaluetoyourfileduringtheanalyzefilesprocess.
SetAutoBPMispartoftheanalyzingfileprocess,itwillnotapplytoanyfilesthathavealreadybeenanalyzedunlessthefollowing:
• Youforceanalyzeatrack,orgroupoftracksandyouselectadifferentBPMrange.• Youforceanalyzeatrack,orgroupoftracksandthecalculateBPMvaluediffersfromthecurrentBPM.
BPM RANGE
The range drop down allows youto specify the BPM range of yourtracks. Selecting an correct rangewill help to avoid half or doubleBPMvaluesbeingcalculatedwhenusingSetAutoBPM.
For example: You have a selectionofhousetracks,thatyouguessareinthe120-130BPMrange.Setthe
dropdownrangeto68-135BPM,settingthelowerandupper limits.Thatway,whenSeratoDJIntrorunsintoa120BPMfile,itwillknowforsurethatitis120BPM,andnotahalfvalueof60BPM(60BPMislowerthanthesetthresholdof68BPM).
NOTE: If you find tracks with BPM values that are incorrect, check the BPM Range is correct in the Offline Player.
LOCK TRACKS
IfatrackdisplaysanorangeLockTracksymbolintheStatuscolumn,thenthefileinformationforthetrackitselfcannotbechanged.
Youwillnotbeabletochangeanyofthetrack’sinformationpermanently in Serato DJ Intro. This includes BPM,waveforms, cuepoints, or other metadata information.
However,youmaybeabletoadjustinformationforthetrackwhenin

asession,butthisinformationwillnotbesaved(written)tothefile’smetatagswherethisinformationiskept.
Thefilemaybelockedbecauseyouareusingthewrongformattedharddrive(ie.aNTFSdriveformattedonaWindowsPCandtryingtousethisonaMacwhichcanonlyReadthisinformation).
Or itcouldbethefile itself is locked.Tofindout ifa track is locked,highlightthetrackinSeratoDJIntro,andpressCTRL+Rto‘reveal’thefilelocationonyourharddrive.
Then press either Command+I (‘Get Info’ for Mac) or ALT+Enter(‘Properties’forWIndows).
ThenseeifthetrackisReadOnly,orthatyouhavethepermissionstowritetothefile.
TRACK ANALYZE ON DECK LOAD
Loadinganun-analyzedtrackwillfollowtheAnalyzeFilesrules.HavingSetAutoBPMcheckedintheOfflinePlayerwillalsosettheBPMwhenyouloadatracktoavirtualdeckorsampleslotinSeratoDJIntro.
LoadingapreviouslyanalyzedtrackwillnotsetaBPMifthetrackhasnonealready.
NOTE: Make sure these options are checked in the Offline Player if you wish to have this functionality when performing.
The library contains all the music that you have added to Serato DJIntro. By using browse and search you can easily narrow down yourselectiontofindthetrackyouwant.
TIP: You can change the size of your library text by using the keyboard shortcuts ctrl + and ctrl -.
MOUSE AND KEYBOARD NAVIGATION
You can use the cursor keys and mouse to navigate the library. ThecursorkeysworkasUP,DOWN,FWDandBACK
HARDWARE NAVIGATION

SEARCHING
Serato DJ Intro includes a search function to help you find tracksquicklyandeasily.Justenter text into thesearchboxandSeratoDJIntrowillautomaticallyfindasyoutype.
TIP: Use the keyboard shortcut CTRL + F to jump to the search box. This keyboard shortcut will also take you out of any crate or playlist that you might be in and into your main library, so you can find any track in your collection. If you then click on a crate or playlist, the search query will be cleared. To select which fields the search function will look through, click on the left hand side of the search box. The drop down menu shows which fields are currently being used. Press ESC or the X button on the right of the search box to clear the search.

PREPARE
Thepreparewindowisanareaforholdingtracks,muchlikepreparingasetbyliftingrecordspartiallyoutofyourrecordbag.ClickthepreparebuttoninSeratoDJIntrotoopenthepreparepanel.Navigatethroughyour library with the keyboard and use the mouse to drag tracks orcratesintothepreparewindoworontothepreparetab.
Thesetrackswillberemovedfromthepreparepaneloncetheyhavebeenplayed.AlltracksinthepreparepanelwillbediscardedwhenyouexitSeratoDJIntro.
TIP: Use the keyboard shortcut ctrl-p to add tracks to the prepare window.
TIP: Select the contents of the Prepare window and drag them onto the new crate button (+) to save the selection.
ORGANIZING YOUR LIBRARY
SeratoDJIntrocansupportanunlimitednumberoftracks–theonlylimitationisthesizeoftheharddriveofyourcomputer.Anumberoffeaturesareincludedtohelpyoutokeepyourmusicorganizedandfindtracksquicklyandeasily.
CRATES
Serato DJ Intro uses digital crates for quick access to your favoritecollections.Thereisnolimittothenumberofcratesyoucancreate,andanygiventrackcanbeplacedinmultiplecrates.Thecrateareaisonthelefthandsideofthelibrary.
Forexample,youcouldorganizeyourtracksintothefollowingcrates,whereanyonetrackwouldbefiledinmorethanonecrate.
• HipHop• FrenchHipHop• UKHipHop• InstrumentalHipHop• OldSchoolHipHop• HipHopLps
Tomakeanewcrate,clickthe+button.Torenameacrate,doubleclickthecratename.Youcanchangetheorderoftrackswithinacratebydraggingthemupordown.
SUBCRATES
Youcandraganddropcratesintoothercratestomakesubcrates. Ifyoudragacratetotheveryleftofthecratepanel,itwillstayinthetoplevelof thecratestructure. Ifyoudrag thecratea little to theright,ontothenameofanothercrate,itwillmakethecrateyouaredragginga sub crate of this crate. Subcrates can be opened and collapsed,allowingyoutohavealargenumberofcrateswhilstmakingthemeasytobrowse.

Clickingonthetriangleatthetoprightofthelibrarywillshowthelistsoyoucanturnfieldsonandoff.Youcanresizecolumnsbygrabbingtheedgeanddraggingtothewidthyouwant.
EDITING ID3 TAGS
MuchoftheinformationassociatedwitheachtrackcanbeeditedfromwithinSeratoDJIntro.Doubleclickonthefieldwithinthemainlibrarytoeditit.Filename,length,size,bitrateandsamplingcannotbeedited,thisinformationissavedinthefileitself.
TIP: Use the keyboard shortcut CTRL + E to edit text. Hold down the ctrl key and move with the arrow keys to change to a different field while staying in edit mode. When you have more than one track selected, editing tags changes all the tracks in your selection.
TIP: The second column in the library is the label color for that track. Click it to bring up a color palette, and customize the virtual deck for that track.
NOTE: Tracks that are read-only have a locked icon.
LIBRARY AUTO -BACKUP
SeratoDJIntrowillcreateafolderonyourharddiskcalled_Serato_where it stores your library database, crate information and otherinformation.The_Serato_folderislocatedintheMyMusicfolderonWindowsandintheMusicfolderonMac.
SeratoDJIntrowillalsocreatea_Serato_folderonanyexternaldrivethatyouhaveaddedfilesfromintothelibrary.
WhenyoufirstexitSeratoDJIntroyouwillbepromptedtobackupyourlibrary.Thiscreatesacopyofthe_Serato_folderonyoursystemdriveandonanyconnectedexternaldrivescontaininga_Serato_folder.Thebackupfolder iscalled_SeratoBackup_.Afterthe initialbackup,youwill be prompted to backup again if the last backup on that drive isolderthanaweekorifnobackupexists.SeratoDJIntrowillonlykeepONEbackupatatime,soeachtimeyoubackup,SeratoDJIntrowilloverwritethepreviousbackup.
NOTE: If you have a earlier version of Serato ITCH or Scratch Live installed the library folder may be called ‘ScratchLIVE’, not ‘_Serato_’.
RESCAN ID3 TAGS

Pressingalt+spacebaractivatesthetempotapperfortheleftvirtualdeck(pressalt+spacebarasecondtimetoactivatethetempotapperon theright virtualdeck).Tocalculate, tap thespacebaralongwiththebeat.Afteryou’vetappedthefirstbeat,youcanswitchtodoubletimetapping,halftime,startofeachbaretc.Therange issetby thefirsttwotaps,afterthatyoucanswitchtoanysteadyrhythmyoufeelcomfortablewith–quarternotes,halfnote,wholenotes.Theesckeyresets the BPM, the enter key saves the BPM to the track. You canalsousethemouseifyoupreferbyclickinginthetaptempoboxandclickingthemousebuttonintime.
NOTE: You don’t need to be at Zero on the pitch slider, Serato DJ Intro does the math for you.
TRACK OVERVIEW DISPLAY
Thisareaprovidesacompleteoverviewofthewaveformofthetrackandincludesamarkertoshowthecurrentpositionwithinthetrack.Thisview is useful for finding transitions within the track. The waveformis colored according to the spectrum of the sound; red representinglowfrequencybasssounds,greenrepresentingmidfrequencysoundsandbluerepresentinghighfrequencytreblesounds.Youcanjumptodifferent positions within the track by clicking on the track overviewdisplay.Greylinesbehindtheoverviewshowthelengthofthetrack;athingreylineeveryminute,andathickgreylineevery5minutes.Ifyouhavenotanalyzedyourfilestheoverviewwillbefilledwhenyouloadthetrackontoavirtualdeck.

MAIN WAVEFORM DISPLAY
Thisareaprovidesaclose-upviewofthetrack,includingcolor-codingto show the frequency of the sound; red representing low frequencybass sounds, green representing mid frequency sounds and bluerepresenting high frequency treble sounds. Click and hold on thewaveformto‘scrub’ormakefineadjustmentstoyourpositionwithinthetrack.Themainwaveformiszoomedaroundthecurrentpositioninthetrack.

Whenatrackisloaded,thetrackname,artist,length,keyandpitchedBPMaredisplayedinthetracktitlebar.Ifanyofthisinformationisnotcontainedinthefileitwillnotbedisplayed.Displayedbelowthisarepitchandplayback.
Thetimeandremainingtimearedisplayedinminutesandseconds.
ThepitchedBPMistherecalculatedBPMvalueofthetrackrelativetothepositionofthepitchslideronyourSeratoDJIntrocontroller.
PitchdisplaysthepitchvaluerelativetothepositionofthepitchslideronyourSeratoDJIntrocontroller.
WhenKeyLockison,thekeyorpitchofthesongstayslockedatwhatit would be if the track was playing at normal speed. Key Lock hasscratchdetection,sothatitautomaticallyturnsoffwhenscratchingforanaturalscratchingsound.
TheKeytagforthecurrenttrackisdisplayed(ifavailable).
Playbackallowsyoutoselectwhichplaybackmodeyouwant.Singlemeans once the end of the track is reached you will hear silence.Contmeanswhentheendofthetrackisreachedthenexttrackintheplaylistwillbeloadedandplaybackwillcontinue.

TEMPO MATCHING DISPLAY
The tempo matching display area provides a helpful tool for beatmatching.SeratoDJIntrodetectsthebeatswithinthetrackandplacesarowoforangepeaks(forthetrackontheleftside)abovearowofbluepeaks(forthetrackontherightside) inthetempomatchingdisplayarea.Whenthetwotracksarematchedtothesametempo,thepeakswilllineup.
Thisdisplaydoesnotshow the relative timingof thebeats,only thetemposofthetracks.Thepeakswillstilllineupwhenthetracksareplayingatthesametempo,butareoutofsync.
BEAT MATCHING DISPLAY
This view shows the position of beats within the track. When beatmatching,thisviewhelpsalignthedownbeatsofthetwotracks.Themarkersarematchedupwhenthetwotracksarebeatmatched.
EXAMPLE OF USING THE VISUAL AIDS TO BEAT MATCH
In this example, the track that is playing is on the left deck and thetracktobemixedinisontherightdeck.
1.Startthetrackplayingontherightdeck.Afterafewseconds,bluepeaksappearinthetempomatchingdisplay.
2.AdjustthepitchoftherightdeckonyourSeratoDJIntrocontrolleruntilthebluepeakssitundertheorangepeaksinthetempomatchingdisplay.Oncetheyarealigned,thetwotrackshavethesametempo.
3.Nextalignthemarkersinthebeatmatchingdisplay.Watchthecoloroftheitemspassingbyinthemainwaveformdisplay.Rememberthatakickorbassdrumwillberedincolor,andasnaredrumwillbegreenorblue.

GETTING THE TRACKS IN TIME
Movingthepitchadjustwillslowthetrackdownorspeedthetrackup.Thisallowsyoutotaketwotracksthatareofdifferenttemposandmixthemtogetherintime.ThepitchedBPMandthepitch%areshownintheSeratoDJIntrotrackinformationdisplay.
The simplest way to adjust the speed to match the other track is tomovethepitchtheBPMvalueisthesameasthetrackthatisalreadyplaying.Byrepeatedlyplayingfromthetempcuepointandfinetuningthe pitch slider you can get the tracks playing at exactly the samespeed.
Youhave5availablecuepointsforeachtrackinSeratoDJIntro.Yourhardwaredevicewilldeterminehowmanycuepointyoucansetandtriggerviahardwarecontrol.

TIP: If you press the PLAY/PAUSE button on your controller whilst you are holding down the ‘CUE’ button on your controller, playback will continue when you let both buttons go. This allows you to cue a track in from pause mode and then continue playback once you know the mix is right.

VISUAL AID: CUE POINT STATUS
Notice that the stripe on the Virtual Deckjumpstothe12o’clockpositionandchangescolorwhenyousetacuepoint-youareatthecuepointwhen thestripe isonesolidcolorand at the 12 o’clock position. As the trackplaysonbeyondthepositionofthecuepoint,the colored stripe will shorten by a fifth for
eachrotation.Likewise,asyouapproachthecuepoint,thecolorwillgrowbyafiftheachrotation.
TEMPORARY CUE
The temp cue function allows you to set a temporary cue point in atrackthatisnotsavedtothefile.Thisisusefulforfindingapointinatrackandthenbeingabletoeasilystartagainfromthispointasyougetyourmixright.Whilepausedyoucanusetheplattertofinetunetheplayheadplacement toensureyourcuepoint is setexactlyonadownbeat.
YoucansetatempcuepointusingtheSeratoDJIntrokeyboardhotkeys:
• CTRL+I=setcuepointforleftdeck.• CTRL+K=setcuepointforrightdeck.
NOTE : Play will have to be paused in order for a temp cue to be set.
Oncethetempcueisset,holdingtherelevanttemp-cuebuttononyourcontroller (usually ‘CUE’) whilst paused will play from the temp cuepoint.Releasingthebuttonwillpauseplaybackandreturntothetempcueposition.Thisisgoodforstutteringinthestartofatrack.

If you want the playhead to jump to the start of the loop when youenabletheloop,holdthecontrolkeyandpresstheLOOPbutton.

AUTO LOOPING
Auto-looping allows you to create loops instantly. Auto-loops rangefrom1/32to32bars.YoucanusetherelevantAuto-Loopcontrolsonyourhardwaretoselecttheauto-looprange.
PressingtheAuto-Loopbuttonwillcreatealoopstartpointfromthenearestbeattotheplayhead(withinreason),andsetaloopendpointin the future. The loop is snapped to the beats in the song detectedbySeratoDJIntrosoevenifyoupressthebuttonslightlyoutoftimeSeratoDJIntrowillstillcreateaperfectloopforyou.
Pressingauto-loopagainwhileauto-loopisactivewilldeactivatetheloop.Adjustingtheauto-loopamountwhileloopingisactivewillextendthe endpoint of the current loop to the appropriate new auto-looplength.
NOTE: Auto-loop calculates the loop from the track’s BPM value, so make sure your tracks have been Analyzed prior to Auto-looping.

RELATIVE PITCH & PITCH CONTROL
Pitchslider/dialadjustmentsonhardwareofadeckinSyncwillalterthetempoforalltracksinSync.
When a deck is in sync, altering the pitch will affect the pitch of allsynceddecks.Thisisknownasrelativepitch.

AVERAGE BPM AND CHANGING TEMPOS
Analyzing a file will only calculate the average BPM and there is achance the track’s actual tempo may differ from the displayed BPMvalue.Thiswillbe thecase for trackswithvarying tempos (ie.sometypesofmusicsuchasrock,reggae,funk,jazzorliverecordings),ortheBPMmayvaryover time (in thecaseofvinylrecordings,old liverecordingstotape,orpoorlyencodedmusic).

USB BUFFER SIZE (LATENCY)
SeratoDJIntroprocessesaudiodatainsmallchunks.Whensmallerchunksareused,themovementoftheplatteristranslatedintoaudiomoreoften,whichresultsinaloweroverallsystemlatency.However,thisrequiresmoreprocessingpowerandthereforeahigherCPUload,so lower buffer size settings require a more powerful computer toproduce uninterrupted audio. If you want tighter control, you shouldtrydecreasingthissetting,ontheotherhand,ifyouexperienceaudiodropouts, you need to increase this setting (or use a more powerfulcomputer).
HARDWARE
Any files moved to “All”, an existing crate, or a new crate will nowremain inSeratoDJ Introevenwhen“show iTunes library”option isunchecked.OnceafilehasbeenpermanentlyaddedtoSeratoDJIntro,theiTuneslogowilldisappear.
