MEET THE TEACHER MEETINGS Many thank yous to all the par-

ents who took up the invitation to come into school to find out about the expecta-tions for their children as they move into their new school year group. Those parents who came to the original meeting were able to attend a short pres-entation by Mrs. France which celebrated all our school successes from 2015/16; explored what will make us outstanding as a school and the role of the school and the role of parents in achieving this; and our forthcoming priorities for school im-provement. Thank you also to all those parents who took advantage of the additional morn-ing sessions that were held so all your children’s teachers could be seen.

MOSSCROFT SCHOOL DEVELOPMENT PLAN 2016/ 2017

Each year it is the responsibility of the Governing Body, in partnership with the school’s

Leadership Team, to produce the school’s development plan to bring about school

Improvement.

For 2016/ 2017, the school’s actions will continue to link to the outcomes from our Ofsted

Inspection ( May 2015),together with any patterns identified from our school data.

So the key priorities for the coming year are continuing to ensure:

* all work is pitched correctly and their is challenge for all and particularly the most able

and boys

* marking and feedback within books is meaningful and motivating and helps to improve

pupils work.

*there are plenty of opportunities for cross curricular writing

*expectations of the way pupils present their work and of the standard of their

handwriting are always high

*actions planned by leaders, at all levels improve the quality of

teaching and the achievement of pupils

* attendance is closer to National averages of 96%

NEW AREAS for focus:

* reading in KS1

* spelling, grammar and punctuation across school

WEBSITE INFORMATION Can I just remind parents that our school

website contains lots of useful information including term dates—so you should never be unsure of when we break up or when we return. Teachers have updated all their webpages so you should be able to take a look at your child’s new class pages and what's planned ahead for them! www.mosscroft.co.uk

READING CORNER Your children by now should have been provided with a school reading book for home and a book mark to record your reading sessions on and have been bringing them home every night.

I cannot emphasise how important and valuable it is to hear your child read on a regular basis—and the benefits that brings to not only their reading ability but also their spelling, understanding of grammar and punctuation and therefore their writing ability too. So no matter how old your child is LITTLE & OFTEN is the key. Encourage your child to read to you by creating a cosy reading time somewhere quiet and inviting with no disruptions. Be positive and support your child’s efforts. Remember to talk about the book: the characters, plot and story-line. Don’t forget to enjoy any humour too. Reading should be FUN!!!

NURSERY ATTENDANCE In line with the Local Authority initiative to improve school attendance and in an effort to build positive attitudes and habits towards attendance, Nursery children are to become a focus in this area. The attendance of Nursery pupils will now be tracked by school and absences recorded as being authorised or unauthorised. In order for absences of Nursery children to recorded accurately and be author-ised, Nursery parents are requested to follow the same requirements as all other parents in that: proof of absence must be presented at the school office to explain absence this can be doctors appointment cards, pre-scribed medicines or care of the chemist proof. The Learning Mentor will provide a first response phone call to follow up any absences.

A BIG THANK YOU On behalf of all the staff

can we thank all the chil-

dren and

parents for the wonder-

ful gifts that you gave to

us before the Summer

holidays to mark the end

of the school year.

Your kindness and

generosity is always

touching and all the gifts

and cards were very

gratefully

received.

Thank you all.
