Summary of Visit with Canon Lucinda

The process occurs in the following manner: ** The team of story gatherers share the results and then ALL members of St. Mary’s has a conversation; Occurs in November, date to be determined.

** History taking occurs as an ALL congregation conversations

** The congregation determines what we have in our congregation and what we need.

During this TRANSITION time, it’s important to con-tinue to care for our current clergy member. The con-gregation needs to know that Rev. Gretchen has her own personal Chaplain to help her through this proc-ess. It’s important for us to support her as well as let her retire. There is a period of a year that Rev. Gretchen will need to be “out of St. Mary’s,” partly to allow the new Clergy Leader to settle into St. Mary’s, but also to allow Rev. Gretchen to transition as well. If she chooses to do so, Rev. Gretchen may return with permission of the Bishop and after having a conversa-tion with the new Clergy Leader. The Vestry would like for all members at St. Mary’s to participate in this process. Communicate with your Vestry members and other members of the congrega-tion. This is a process that we all have a voice in, and it’s important to be involved. As Bishop Brian shared at his annual visit: The blessing occurs outside of the comfort zone. Our com-fort zone may be “pushed” but the blessing will come! “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Philippians 4:6

Summary of Visit with Canon Lucinda

The goal of Canon Lucinda’s visits is to find a Clergy Leader who is a “fit” with St. Mary’s. The goal is to find someone by the Easter Season, 2018. It’s important to work towards a smooth transition to a new clergy leader to maintain a healthy parish, allow Rev. Gretchen to retire, and to keep good forward momentum.

St. Mary’s is NOT entering a period of change but rather one of TRANSITION. Change is something that occurs due to an external force, it’s sudden, causes reaction, and creates a rebuilding of the past.

St. Mary’s is in a period of TRANSITION, which is something that occurs internally, is planned, results from proactive participation, and helps to build a fu-ture.

Consider the story of Exodus. Moses leads the He-brews out of Egypt into a land of uncertainty, a land of wilderness. The Hebrews were lost and uncertain about their future, or even what that future looked like in the Promised Land. The people of St. Mary’s are leaving “Egypt,” a place they know, and entering into the “wilderness.” We are unsure of what the “Promised Land” looks like, but it is there waiting for us. We need to put our faith in God, that He will show us that “Promised Land” and trust the strength of Christ in our congregation.

50th Convention of the Episcopal Diocese of

Idaho

Jack’s Urban Meeting Place (JUMP) – Boise

October 27-29, 2017

The Episcopal Diocese of Idaho will be holding their 50th Diocesan Convention at JUMP on October 28th and 29th, with Convention Opening and Evensong on Friday evening, October 27th, at St. Michael's Cathedral.

The Presiding Bishop and Primate of the Episcopal Church, The Most Rev. Michael Curry will be our guest.

St. Mary's Book Club

A book club will be begin on Monday, Septem-ber 25th at 6:30. It will be a monthly occurrence! The first book will be "A Lineage of Grace: Five Stories of Unlikely Women Who Changed Eternity" by Francine Rivers. This story is about Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, Bathsheba, and Mary.

Everyone is responsible for finding their own book. If you want to get reading ahead, we will be rec-ognizing the 500th anniversary of the Reformation by reading "Five Women of the English Reformation" by Paul F. M. Zahl for the month of October.

Bishop's Retreat 2017 "Remembering Our Parents (Biblical and Otherwise)"

Friday, September 29 until Sunday, October 01 Monastery of the Ascension, Jerome, Idaho

Through a review of Scripture and contemporary memoir,

Bishop Brian invites you to a weekend of Bible study and per-

sonal reflection about those who have brought us to this day.

Ascension Monastery is a good place for such work. The peo-

ple who will join us will be sent by the Holy Spirit.

What you need to know for the Retreat:

Plan to arrive Friday evening after you’ve eaten, after 6pm. Bring clothing and amenities for casual, yet thought-provoking conversations. Travel issues & emergency contacts: Monastery 208-324-1052, Bishop Brian 208-731-2782.

What to bring: A Bible or two (different translations), Comfort-able clothing, Notepads/journals, Nibbles to share, A heart open to differing biblical insights

St. Mary’s Academic Achievement Award (AAA)

In order to encourage and challenge the youth in

our immediate church family, we have established

the St. Mary’s Academic Achievement Award. One

hundred dollars will be awarded to any high

school, junior high or middle school student

who receives a 3.5 GPA report card.

For our young people it is vitally important for them

to understand that getting the finest education pos-

sible, and using that knowledge with the guidance

of the Holy Spirit, is their best hope – both for their

future and for the future of mankind.

Requirements: In order to apply for the award the

student must attend St. Mary’s Church and must

have a parent, grandparent or guardian who is a

member of St. Mary’s Church. Report cards should

be submitted to the Priest or to a member of the

vestry….there is no application form. If more than

one student qualifies, multiple awards will be given,

but students may only receive the award once dur-

ing each academic year.

The awards are funded by the L. Dean and Gay

Welch Memorial gifts in keeping with their lifelong

support of education excellence.
