Counting Our Blessings Dr. Rich Denning, Lead Pastor
Have you counted your blessings lately? One old song I
love to hear in church challenges us to “Count your
blessings, name them one by one, Count your blessings
see what God has done.” Certainly, my heart is full of
gratitude for what the Lord has done, not only in my life
but what He has done in the life of others at Saint Paul
Church!
When we humble ourselves in prayer and seek unity in
the Body of Christ everyone is blessed. I sense the Lord
is blessing many of His people with “Showers of Bless-
ings!” There will always be songs of gloom but that is all
the more reason for us to be on our knees in prayer. Re-
member, “People need the Lord.” Songs like these are
important to remember in the valley experiences of life
when gratitude seemed illusive. When I encounter
someone that is depressed, angry, resentful and some-
times just plain mean to folks, my heart aches for that person. Somewhere in the past that per-
son has most likely been hurt and has not been able to let go of that hurtful experience.
I am grateful that the Lord has provided for us everything that we need to live victoriously. If
you encounter someone that is not nice to you, I would like to challenge you to pray for that
person. Pray that his or her heart will experience healing. We need to help and encourage those
who are in the valleys. I have learned that one of the best ways to help others is to pray for
them. As we continue prayer, let us encourage one another in the Lord!

From the Assistant Pastor’s Desk… Rev. Jerry Taylor, Assistant Pastor
Greeting brothers and sisters of Saint Paul, hope this letter finds each of you blessed by
our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Since my last letter, it has been a roller coaster of events in our church family. I have preached two funerals, one wedding, and visited several of our church family in the hospital,
along with the help of our pastor. One of the funerals was for my great-niece Laken, who went to be with
the Lord as an infant. We were so blessed to have her for such a short time, but she had a difficult journey,
in such short life. She had surgery to remove two kidneys, a bi-lateral stroke, leaving her without vision.
This sweet child suffered more in such a short time, than most of us suffer in our life time. Please remember
her parents Seth and Shannon Allen, the family, in your prayers. Please check your bulletin for those who
are recovering from surgery and upcoming surgeries.
Though with these losses and trying events in our church family, God is on the move in our Church. We
are witnessing great moves of God each day and we are blessed. We have had visits from two missionary
families in the past month, which allowed us to see his mighty hand at work. Sister Rose Boyd from our
conference shared what is happening in her ministry and touching lives in areas we may never be able to travel. Also, Danny and Judith Williams from India, shared many stories of their ministry and the great
move of God in their area of the world. Two anointed servants of our Lord, who are touching thousands of
lives. The service was one of the most powerful, I have witnessed in some time. Please remember to pray
for those on the front line of reaching the lost. With this being said, we see great strides in faraway places,
but what can we do here in our community? There is a great harvest to be reaped, just outside our four
walls. Being blessed as we are, we need to remember the Great Commission of Matthew 28:19-20.
Yesterday, after church, Susie and I went across the street to Bojangles for a quick lunch. As Susie was wait-
ing in line, four young men from ECU were talking about where they may find a Pentecostal church, she told
them about our church across the street. When she returned to the table, she shared her conversation
with the young men. Not wanting to miss an opportunity like this, I went to my truck and retrieved my cards and tracts about our church. I went up to them and introduced myself and invited them to come and
visit. We never know what position they are in with the Lord, but we need to be ready when God allows us
the opportunity to share the gospel.
School is back, and many young people, with Christian backgrounds, will be tempted with the ways of this
world. We need to always be ready to reach out to them with love and guidance. Not only these, but the
world is looking for answers to their life’s situations, and we have it, his name is Jesus. Please join me and
others, in sharing the good news.
We have a great need in the church for help in building the kingdom of our Lord. Please step up to the plate
and bat for Jesus. There are many in the church who are trying to do multiples ministries, without help from
others. Please help, it can’t be achieved with out your help. All of us have talents; don’t bury your talent in
the sand. Remember the parable of the talents in Matthew 25:14-30. None of us want our Master to return
and find us with buried talents.
May God bless each of you!

Our Royal Rangers classes are on the move! Since revamping our Ranger Ministry we have
added two new commanders to our team, Ryan Campanaro and Jason Groesser. Both these
gentlemen completed the Ranger training in Falcon and are now official commanders. Their
class, which only had a few students is growing by leaps and bounds. All of our classes have
gone on a couple of excursions to include an afternoon fishing and swimming. Both of our
Ranger classes and their commanders are doing an outstanding job teaching and reaching
boys for Jesus Christ. If interested in becoming a part of this vital ministry please see Pat
Campanaro.

Since revamping our Girl’s Ministries we have added
numerous teachers and had a great time learning
about Jesus and going on outings - from movies and
manicures to pizza and pool parties just to name a
few. We are looking forward to more exciting times
in the future.
Our Girl’s Ministries leaders will attend a training on September 11th at Gospel Tabernacle in
Dunn, NC. If interested in becoming a Girl’s Ministries leader please see me, Wendy Bland.
Please join us prior to this service for a FREE meal beginning at 6PM honoring
our Rangers and Girls. WE are looking forward to a very exciting evening!!!

NEW SCHOOL YEAR and NEW BEGINNINGS Rev. Richard Williams, Youth Pastor
As we prepare to start heading toward fall and a new beginning of
school and the hectic pace of schedules, games, meetings, and such,
let's be sure we don't leave the most important thing out, our relation-
ship with Jesus Christ. Our youth see how we value our relationship
and the things we put in front of our relationship with Christ. The
games, meetings, concerts, and other activities all have a place, but be
sure they know that Christ is first. When there is something going on
at church make it a priority to be there and have our youth there. If
you have a commitment to be involved, show up, help out and let’s show off our Savior and
the place He has in our life.
With that being said we have a busy lineup for our youth and please make every effort to en-
courage them to attend and participate. They are missed when they are not at our functions.
When they know their friends are going to be there on a consistent basis they are encour-
aged to be there. When we get together we encourage each other in our faith (1 Thessaloni-
ans 5:11).

The building on the left below is the first church building in which the Saint Paul congrega-
tion worshipped. It was built by Jacob Benjamin Williams. The one room pine building also
served as a school. The second building, affectionately known as the “White Church” was
built by Willie Lewis, Williams’ son-in-law. One of the mysteries in our history is that no
one seems to know when either of these two buildings were built. There is also no date
associated with this photo, so if any of you car aficionados out there have an idea about the
vehicle in the photo, perhaps you can help us narrow down a time frame! Please see Ann
Stocks if you have any clues to this mystery.

It is a very exciting time for our Women's Ministry. We are growing in our relationship with
God and each other. God is blessing us financially and allowing us to meet some of the
church's needs like cleaning the playground equipment, purchasing tablecloths, and recovering
the benches in the foyer being led by Mrs. Doris Bland. Our upcoming meetings are Septem-
ber 11th and October 9th at 5pm. Hope to see you there!!!!
October 15th, October 15th, October 15th!!!!!! Mark your calendars now for our Women's
Conference. It starts at 9am and will feature the anointed teachings of Beverly Weeks and
Samantha McCutcheon. Praise and Worship will be led by our very own Pastor Mel Par-
nell. Registration is $20 which includes light breakfast items, morning and afternoon sessions,
and lunch. You can register online using the link on Facebook or the church website, or in
person to myself or Wendy Bland. This is an event you will not want to miss. Please make
plans to attend and feel free to help us spread the word.
A servant’s heart has more to do with your
relationship with God than it has to do with
your desire to be recognized for your good
deeds. Having a servant’s heart is one of the
most beautiful expressions of love; it is about
showing your love to others by simply being
what God intended you to be with no
strings attached. We are reminded over and
over to not hide our candlestick. I know God has put a talent in all of us and it is our duty
to bless others with what God gave us. In the gospel of Matthew we find the following:
“Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so do-
ing” (Matthew 24:46). I say all that to say this. We are starting a Sunday school kick off in
September. Please pray about serving with us as we train up our children in the way they
should go. I have fond memories about Sunday school, with Mrs. Jean and Sammy. The old
saying is you can’t recall what you don’t have. I was telling Carter the other day that it is my
responsibility to teach him the ways of the Lord. He is just learning and trying to figure all of
this out and it takes all of us to plant that seed, water it and reap the harvest. I encourage
you to help buy into our children’s lives, we are responsible for the next generation, we may
never know whose lives will change because we were willing to take the time to be a servant.

From the Children’s Pastor... All of our Kids Ministries have been busy, busy, busy with VBS and all sorts of
summer fun!!! Now as we get ready to gear up for another school year it’s
time to start thinking about our 2016 Kids Christmas musical. As always be-
ginning the first Wednesday evening in October we will use our Wednesday
evening service time to begin practicing for our program. We are hoping to
include students from our toddler class through college age to help out this year. As we gear
up for Christmas we are hoping to have our Kids Church fully operational very soon. During
our Christmas practices parents are asked to drop their child off in Kids Church before ser-
vice and pick them up as soon as service is completed. A detailed letter will be given to all
parents with specific details as the time approaches.
It is a joy and privilege to work with all our SPC students. It is a huge responsibility and
something that can not be done by one person. I want to thank all our children’s ministry
teachers and volunteers for all their hard work and dedication. We are blessed to have such
wonderful workers to bless our kids each week. However, more help is always needed. You
must be 18 years or older to teach but there is no age limit. If interested in becoming in-
volved in one of our awesome children’s ministries please see me, Wendy Campanaro.
There is a story in Luke chapter 10 that has really been on my heart recently. It is the story of Mary and Martha. Jesus came to visit. Now that is a big deal! He is much
more important than any other earthly King or royalty or president! He was also a great friend to Mary and Martha so Martha wanted everything to be perfect for His visit.
She got busy in the kitchen: cooking, cleaning, setting the table, making sure everything was ready for her guest. Somewhere in the midst of the busyness Martha suddenly realized that Mary was not in the kitchen with her. She searched through the house and found Mary sitting down! Really, she was sitting down when there was so much to be done!
In my mind I can see the aggravation on Martha's face. I can feel her frustration as she goes to Jesus and tells him to make Mary get up and help her. I can feel that frustration because I have been there! I have been the one busy working for God and trying to make things per-fect for Him. I have been the one to complain to God when I didn't think others were pull-ing their weight. She was demanding that Jesus make Mary help her!
But I love Jesus' response. In Luke 10:41-42 Jesus says, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken from her." I'm sure that did not make Martha happy. She prob-ably walked, more like she stomped back into the kitchen.
Imagine what Mary felt in that moment... I can just see her, lost in His presence. She was caught up in being at His feet and listening to Him speak that she lost all track of time! I can see her jump at the sound of Martha's voice. Just as she is getting ready to get up, I see Je-sus reach over and put his hand on her shoulder as if to say, "wait... stay just a little longer." The relief that washes over Mary's face, the tears that well up in her eyes, the sigh of peace that escapes her lips... That is what she longed for! Her heart’s desire was more time with HIM!
We all have a little of Mary and Martha in us! And truthfully both are needed in order for things to get accomplished for God's kingdom! But lately I have missed just sitting at His feet and basking in His presence! The busyness of life and responsibilities that overwhelm me remind me of what I am missing! So I have to carve out what I call "Mary time"! Some-times I HAVE to get away and spend time with my friend! Those times are when He hides me in the cleft of the rock and COVERS ME THERE WITH HIS HAND! That is where I regain my strength to keep going!
Are you tired... Are you weary... Are you torn between responsibilities and His heart...? This world can get overwhelming! But the scripture in Psalm 61:2 says “When my heart is over-whelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” Take time to today and RUN TO THAT ROCK!
