What Parents are Saying

About: Kim M.

I feel so fortunate and grateful to have Kim as my son's

care provider. I go to work each day knowing I have left

him in a safe, healthy, nurturing, stimulating, and fun

environment. He is surrounded by a caring provider and

good friends. I know and trust his physical, emotional,

social and developmental needs are being met with inten-

tion and creativity. Kim provides enough structure and

limits to ensure safety and consistency, and activities and

themes that stimulate interest, curiosity and learning,

while allowing the children the freedom and flexibility to

direct their own process of learning and discovery

through play. Kim offers the perfect balance of both

structure and child-directedness. I so appreciate her per-

sonal and professional experience, her intuitive sense of

what the kids in her care want and need, as well as the

fact that she continually pursues her own further learning

through colleagues, your agency, and her ongoing studies

which she enthusiastically applies within her day home

setting. What a gift that my son can reap the benefits of

such a devoted care provider! Thank you, Kim, and

thank you Calgary Family Dayhomes!

What Parents are Saying

About: Christine A.

My experience with Christine's day home has been amaz-ing! Christine is professional, reliable, caring and does an awesome job with J. I am at peace when I drop him off in the morning because I know he is in good hands. She is keen on exposing the kids to a variety of activities such as puzzles, snow painting, colouring, dramatic play, multi-cultural music and dance as well as outdoor time. She also does an awesome job of filling out a communication book with details about J's day. J has learned so much for the length of time at he has been under Christine's care.

What Parents are Saying

About the Agency:

[I just wanted to leave you with some positive feedback. We love Fe and she is a great provider. But with Fe being away, we’ve had our son in back-up care, both which were great providers as well. We are just so happy with the agency and how quickly they found back-up care for us and that we know S is in good hands]

What Parents are Saying

About: Anu R.

I want to give my sincere thanks to Calgary Family Day Home and specially Anu for her incredible care and love towards my daughter and her valuable feedback to us for R's growth. I am very satisfied with the care Anu provide to all kids including R.

Don't get stung! Safe use of personal insect repellant.

While enjoying the warm summer weather, don't forget to protect yourself from pesky bugs that bite! Health Can-ada is reminding Canadians to use bug spray and other insect repellents safely to avoid mosquito and other bug bites. Bug bites can cause a number of health problems from itchiness and irritation to potentially serious diseases. Per-sonal insect repellents can help protect you from mosquito, blackfly and tick bites, but it’s important to remember that they should only be used as directed. If you are using an insect repellent, always follow the label directions. To check for the most recent product infor-mation, use Health Canada’s new pesticide label search mobile app.

What you should do Preventing bug bites is your best protection! To help avoid bug bites, cover exposed skin with clothing as much as possible. If you choose to use a personal insect repellent, follow these important steps:

Use insect repellents that have been approved by Health Canada. (They have a Pest Control Product (PCP) registration number on the prod-uct label.)

Always read the entire label carefully before using, and follow all di-rections. This includes restrictions for use on children and the maximum number of applications allowed per day.

Only apply a small amount of repellent on exposed skin or on top of clothing. (You don’t need a lot for it to be effective.)

Never spray insect repellents directly into your face. Spray on your hands first and then apply to your face.

Try not to get repellent in your eyes. If you do, rinse them immedi-ately with water.

Keep all insect repellent containers out of reach and sight of children and pets and supervise the application of insect repellents on children. Avoid applying repellent to children's hands to reduce the chance of getting the repellent in their eyes and mouths.

If you are concerned that you might be sensitive to a product, apply the product to a small area of skin on your arm and wait 24 hours to see if you have a reaction.

If you suspect that you or your child is reacting to an insect repellent, stop using the product immediately, wash treated skin, and get medical help. When you go to the doctor, take the product container with you.

Report health and safety concerns Report any adverse events to the manufacturer, who is required by law to report it to Health Canada. You may also report an incident directly to Health Canada by completing an incident report form. Public Inquiries 613-957-2991 / 1-866 225-0709

Play, Participation and Possibilities: The Early Learning and Child Care Curriculum Framework for Alberta

What is the Early Learning and Child Care Curriculum Framework? The idea of an Early Learning and Child Care Curriculum Framework for Alberta started in 2012 and is based after the internationally recognized New Brunswick Curriculum Framework for Early Learning and Child Care. The Director of the Child Development Branch at Alberta’s Ministry of Human Services invited faculty from MacEwan Early Learning and Child Care Program and Mount Royal Department of Child and Youth Studies to collaborate on developing and piloting a curriculum framework for early childhood educators working in centre-based childcare and family day homes in Alberta. “Play, Participation, and Possibilities” is the result of a two-year collaboration among early learning and child care educators, early childhood academics, government, and professionals working in related fields across Alberta. The Curriculum’s Main Concepts Are: The Image of the Child as a Citizen and Learner The Practice of Relationships for Early Learning and Child Care Educator/Provider Nurturing the Child’s Disposition to Learn The Environment for Early Learning Supporting Families through changes and Transitions Throughout the next few months, we will explore what it means and how to apply it to your daily routines in more details.
