Literacy

In the first trimester, second graders are to read for at least 15 minutes each night. Students will be given a reading level and they will choose books according to their level. Books should be kept in the ziplock bag to protect them from getting damaged. Students can read out loud to a friend, relative, or to themselves. In addition to the 15 minutes of reading they must fill out a reading log. Reading logs are due at the end of the week and must be signed by a parent/guardian.

Towards the end of September students will receive their spelling words. Students will practice spelling words in school and will complete a packet at home for one or two weeks. Spelling tests will be given when spelling homework due. It is the student’s responsibility to ask for a new spelling list if they lose or misplace the first one.
