September 2013
Dear Members and Friends,
Aside from Holy Week, September is one of the busiest times in the
year at church. I hope that amid the rains and heat waves everyone has
been able to enjoy this summer. As labor Day comes upon us and schools
are back in session I welcome the burst of activity that comes with the fall
schedule.
Sunday School resumes on September 8th and at our worship service
that day we will welcome back our choir, install our Sunday School staffand formally install our Deacons which we should have done when we
came together in 2011, but somehow forgot to.
Bible Studies will resume on Tuesday mornings and the first and
third Wednesday evenings. Meeting nights, council meetings and Deacons
all resume in September as well.
The CROP WALK will start at the Reformed Church at 1:00 p.m. on
September 29th. Let us know if you would like to walk and need contribu-tion forms. Twenty five percent of all that we receive comes back to Glov-
ersville and Johnstown food pantries.
If you would like to participate in some new way and you need more
information please ask.
By the Grace of God,
Pastor David Almleaf

Grace Hosts Bicycle GroupsOn Thursday August 1st about 25 youth and adultsfrom St. Stephens in Marathon, NY and St. Patricks
in Whitney Point, NY were welcomed here at Grace. This is their 17th year of bicycling! We found out thattheir leader had actually bicycled through Johnstown atanother time and saw our church. They were on the way to the Sacandaga Lake. Theirbeginning and ending point was in Utica. On July 29ththey worked at homes of the elderly in Fultonville andon the 31st helped out at the Shrine. They asked tocome to Grace so they could have a place to do theirspiritual studies. Our fellowship hall was a perfectplace for them to rest and do their studies. We servedthem juice, water, coffee, coffee cakes and snacks.
They did not expect anything and so were very gratefulfor our hospitality.
On Tuesday August 6th a group of about 20 adults rid-ing from St. Paul MN to Boston were served a covereddish dinner. They arrived around 2:30 in the afternoon. They said they had stayed at 8 other churches along
their way but our dinner was the best! We asked if theywere Lutheran churches, they said no! We laughed andtold them thats the reason, we Lutherans like to eat!!We were invited to eat with them. After dinner theyintroduced themselves to us, we learned that one mem-ber was originally from Israel and another from Eng-land would be going home to celebrate his 50th wed-ding anniversary. Another member raises money eachyear to benefit aids and leukemia. She raises approx.$5000.00 each year. They stayed overnight at Graceand were offered breakfast foods also.
Dr Gregory B. Nellis entered
into his eternal rest on August
21, 2013. Dr. Nellis was a well
known podiatrist practicing in
Gloversville for many years.
Several of our parishoners were
patients of his. We pray that his
family will find peace in knowing
that he is resting in the arms of
our loving Savior.
Committee Meetings resume on the first Tuesday ofthe month starting September 3rd at 5:3opm

Grace Notes
To Our Dear Friends at Grace Lutheran Church,
I hope this note nds you well and that you have had a nice summer. Our kids here in Kentucky started
school August 8th. William and Leah missed a few days for doctor appointments and not feeling well, butgenerally they are doing prey well. We diligently keep up with treatments as CF symptoms are ever pre-
sent and their health must be maintained with medicaons, airway clearance techniques, nighme
feeds for Leah to keep here weight up and blood glucose monitoring with insulin through his pump for
William.
Although we had a lot of rain, we have had a nice summer and are harvesng and pung up tomatoes,
potatoes, okra, corn, beans and some herbs. The unusually wet season, somemes made the garden
dicult to culvate. We lost a lot of winter squash due to a eld geng too wet, but generally the farm-
ers are happy with an abundance of corn, soybeans, wheat and tobacco. Lots of calves were born and thecale dot the elds along the road and hill sides.
We were surprised and thrilled to have a couple of apple trees bear lots of fruit for eang, applesauce
and pie. Last year, an early frost kept the fruit trees from producing. We had some peaches too. Were
collecng seeds from owers that well replant in the spring. We have a beauful hedge of sunowers in
front of our house.
Weve been enjoying learning more about the Bible as Brother Hershel presents the lessons and we
aend church 3 mes a week at Thomas Ridge Chrisan Church. My posion as the Music Director there
keeps me busy planning and learning southern gospel hymns. Im also hoping to be called to sub at the
local schools soon. Steven has goen some plumbing jobs and also gets called for some repairs and con-
strucon.
We did make a short trip up north and saw some family, but didnt have me to really make the rounds
to see many friends that we miss. Our niece on Stevens side, Abby, is doing beer aer have a bad head
injury from a bicycle accident. This brought us all together in prayer and we also had a memorial service
for Steves mom, Henni in Rockland County where she is buried and her new inscripted stone was placed.
Over all, weve been so blessed and give thanks to God, our Father who is so good to us and for His son,
Jesus Christ, our Savior, whose love sustains us and keeps us strong and faithful.
Best wishes to all of you. Missing yall and send lots of love,
Susan Gleeman and the Gleeman Family
