During June of the current year, around 50 students from the Faculty of Medicine of the Autonomous University of Yucatan (UADY) engaged by the Commiee on Medical Students of UADY parcipated with the Inter- naonal Federaon of Medi- cal Students Associaon, IFMSA. The Federaon aims to promote cultural and aca- demic exchanges of medical students around the world, through mobility agree- ments, which allows those undergoing medical careers to parcipate in research projects or work in clinics and hospitals in other States of Mexico or of any of the 70 affiliated countries. Student Abraham Herrera Sánchez, coordi- nator internaonal exchanges CEMUADY, said that the commiee takes 5 years or- ganizing naonal and internaonal trade and its goal is "to have a social impact, per- forming acvies in the Commiees of Public Health, Human Rights, and Repro- ducve Health. In the program we seek to create an impact on students through aca- demic and cultural exchange.” Meanwhile, student Elena Pasos Solis, lo- cal exchanges officer for the Student Re- search Commiee, said that while the pro- tocol of the projects is different from clinical work, the response of the students of Medi- cal Sciences has been successful, because for medical students to funcon professionally they must have a full training. UADY currently offers two re- search projects, one at the Re- search Center "Dr. Hideyo Nogu- chi "and another on university nutrion at the Faculty of Chemi- cal Engineering. Drawn by the culture and tradi-tions of this region, a delegation from the Metropolitan State Uni-versity of Denver, Colorado, met on August 11 of this year with officials of the Autonomous Uni-versity of Yucatan (UADY) seek-ing to lay the foundations that give way to agreements for the mobility of students and teach-ers. Ramon del Castillo, from the area of Chicano studies emphasized the interest of the American in-stitution to know in depth and in detail the history and culture of Yucatan. "We are interested in generating cooperation agree-ments in the field of social sci-ences, especially with regard to culture and Mayan traditions." "In the Metropolitan State Uni-versity of Denver there is a sig-nificant enrollment of Chicano students, with roots in various states of Mexico including those located in the southeast region," said the scholar who arrived in

Merida accompanied by Marcela de la Mar, director of the Cultural Mexican Center and Akbarali Thob-hani, executive director of the in-ternational studies office of the American university.

Del Castillo announced that as a result of his meeting with academ-ics and administratives, it is likely that UADY mobility programs will begin in the summer of 2015 "It's the first time we visit UADY and we are confident that future agree-ments will be successful," said del Castillo who also mentioned that of the total enrollment of 24,000 students at Metropolitan State

University of Denver's 21% of them have Mexican roots. Regarding the founding of their institution, the official cited that it was half a century ago and now has an offer of 70 educa-tional programs in virtually all areas of knowledge. "If an agree-ment is struck, which would also involve teachers; it would be the first with a university in the southeast of Mexico." Meanwhile Elsa Mues Ayub, rep-resentative of the General Coor-dination of Cooperation and In-ternationalization of UADY, reit-erated the interest of visiting scholars to identify areas of co-operation and stressed that among the activities that would start the agreements are short courses in summer involving students and teachers.

ernment and the US to promote and strengthen the exchange of students and academics so they can stay in the United States us-ing the opportunities not only to learn the language, as in this case, but also to take formal postgraduate academic studies. Those selected went to 3 differ-ent parts of Texas: Austin, Beau-mont and Houston. Some began their studies on November 3 and some on November 9. Mues

21 students and teachers from various schools of the Autono-mous University of Yucatan (UADY), did a four week stay in the state of Texas of the Ameri-can Union for the purpose of studying English. Elsa Mues Ayub, head of the International Affairs area of in-ternationalization, reported that this proposal was born of the "100 000", which is a declara-tion made by the Mexican gov-

Ayub stressed that one of the main requirements was that the students had an intermediate level of English, so that in this way the courses taken would contrib-ute to a better development of the language. Participating schools in the ex-change are: Faculty of Engineer-ing, Economics, Chemical Engi-neering, Psychology, Education, Architecture, Veterinary Medi-cine, Nursing and Mathematics.

"This is an award that you de-serve, which makes UADY con-tinue to grow in size and pres-tige, to be distinguished and recognized for what it does,"

said Alfredo Dájer Abimerhi, president of UADY in a ceremo-ny held on August 27, 2014 at the University Theater Felipe Carrillo Puerto. Dájer Abimerhi also said "with your work of teaching, research, management and academic tu-toring you help the University advance in its indicators" and as

an example he pointed out that "currently 97% of the under-graduate enrollment is in quality programs, ie, evaluated and rec-ognized by external bodies." José de Jesús Williams, coordi-nator of Academic Development recalled that the University has recognized programs and ac-credited and evaluated degrees in the Register of Quality CONA-CYT and it also has graduate programs by agencies and Excel-lent Performance indicators of students and all this "is the product of (the academics) work and commitment."

On August 27 of 2014, the Sec-retariat of Public Education (SEP by its Spanish acronym), through its Department of High-er Education, recognized 112 academics from the Autono-mous University of Yucatan (UADY by its Spanish acronym) that have the desirable profile for the Program Professional Development for Superior Teaching (PRODEP). Of the 112 distinguished schol-ars today at the UADY Theatre, all are full-time and have a post-graduate (specialization, mas-ters and PhD), 28 received the recognition for the first time and 84 had already received it in the past. In total, UADY has 496 of its 786 teachers, ie, the 63.1%, with the desirable profile for a full-time teacher in a public in-stitution.
