September 7, 2018 The Defender MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL Dear Parents, Students and Friends of St. Michael the Archangel, Next Tuesday, September 11 th is Patriot Day. Ask anyone, and they will be able to tell you exactly where and what they were doing on that fateful day. After those tragic events of September 11, 2001, we promised that we would never forget. The following is how I will always remember that day: On September 11, 2001, I was the principal of Nativity Parish School. It was a crisp, autumn day with barely a cloud in the blue sky. We had just prayed at Mass for the people involved in a single plane crash, and had no idea of what was to unfold on that tragic day. As we stopped for a short recess after Mass, we noticed what appeared to be a perfect ring of smoke or a halo directly above the church. Upon entering school, it soon became clear that we were facing something that we had never faced before. Our job to protect and nurture the children in our care was never clearer. Despite the beautiful weather, no other outdoor recesses were al- lowed. We decided that our only option was to keep this tragedy from the chil- dren as much as we could to avoid panic, fear and misunderstanding; while allowing their parents to discuss it with them first when they returned to their homes. At the end of the day, we sent home with every student a picture of the “halo’ over the church with a comforting Bible verse knowing full well that life as we know it was going to change forever. When the children returned to school on September 12, 2001, we talked about their fears, prayed and concentrated on hope for the future. Please say a prayer this weekend for the victims, their families, and for peace in our world. St. Michael the Archangel, protect us! God bless, Michael J. Cullinan Principal BE IT KNOWN TO ALL WHO ENTER HERE THAT CHRIST IS THE REASON FOR THIS SCHOOL, THE UNSEEN BUT EVER PRESENT TEACHER IN ITS CLASSES, THE MODEL OF ITS FACULTY, THE INSPIRATION OF ITS STUDENTS.

The Defender

MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents, Students and Friends of St. Michael the Archangel,

Next Tuesday, September 11th is Patriot Day. Ask anyone, and they will be able to tell you exactly where and what they were doing on that fateful day. After those tragic events of September 11, 2001, we promised that we would never forget. The following is how I will always remember that day:

On September 11, 2001, I was the principal of Nativity Parish School.

Despite the beautiful weather, no other outdoor recesses were al-lowed. We decided that our only option was to keep this tragedy from the chil-dren as much as we could to avoid panic, fear and misunderstanding; while allowing their parents to discuss it with them first when they returned to their homes.

God bless,

St. Michael’s Pledge

Jesus help me today to

keep you:

In my mind, on my lips,

In doing my best in all

things, I give you glory.

Help me to treat others as

you treat them:

With kindness and

respect Give me the cour-

age to do what is right, to

exhibit self-control, and

to pray before I act.

I will respect others, their

property and myself.

St. Michael the Archangel

help me to fulfill

this pledge.
