Welcome to North Park Covenant Church online! We’re glad you’re here.

For your prayers this week: Bill Faude, grateful for his son Jake’s and his own rapid recoveries from COVID-19 and for all of the prayers he was able to sense were and are with him; Cheryl Borgeson’s mother, Orel Borgeson, age 103, facing serious health issues including a cancer diagnosis; North Park University students, both first-time and returning, who are unable to connect outside of campus due to the virus; students, teachers, administrators, working parents, and all others affected by virtual schooling plans, all across the country; Kristen Westphal, getting settled in a new apartment, enrolled in a nursing program, caring for her mother, and feeling far from her father, who is on hospice care in Florida; Jacob Blake, hospitalized after being shot recently, and his children, who witnessed the shooting; those living on the Gulf Coast, experiencing the effects of Hurricane Laura; those in the Caribbean mourning the loss of loved ones due to the same hurricane; Peter and Anna Kim, as they anticipate beginning mission work in Taiwan and all that comes with that; Craig Wickstrom, hoping to return to Congo and in need of financial support; Dick Lucco, appreciative of your prayers as he continues chemotherapy; Jim Hosek, battling pancreatic cancer; Herb Hedstrom, appreciative of continued prayers; the Faude family, navigating the effects of COVID-19; Heidi Hedberg, daughter to Martha and Peter Frisk and sister to David Frisk, undergoing chemotherapy treatments; Wilma Cruz, continuing to battle a number of health issues; Lori Johnson’s brother-in-law Bob Malcolm, now receiving care at home; Barb Goode’s cousin David Jeffery, home again after being hosptalized after a fall in which he sustained a head injury; our city, as we continue to deal with violence, looting, and ongoing tension; COVID-19, and all that comes with its existence in our midst; our brown and Black brothers and sisters, who continue to face racism, ignorance, and hatred at the hands of others; our nation, as we continue to reel following the murder of George Floyd and so many others

Today begins week 36 of Heartwalking the Neighborhood: Please be in prayer for the 5400 block of north Saint Louis (east side). If you are following along in the Heartwalking booklet, please delete 5315-5359 in the second column (this is a carry-over from 5300 N. Spaulding, east side).

This is the perfect time to pray together—not that every moment isn’t a great opportunity to pray! This moment, however, sees us in tumultuous times, times begging us to ask God for understanding, help, and hope. So, we bring this privilege to pray together in agree-ment using a Virtual Prayer Vigil on Saturday, September 12, from 8 am to 8 pm. Please choose a half-hour slot on the sign-up sheet,

which can be found here. The prayer sheets for your use will be provided on Friday, September 11. Thank you for praying!

The fall issue of The Covenant Home Altar has arrived at church. If you would like a copy mailed to you, please let Ann-Marie Frisk know, using the email on the back of the bulletin. Otherwise, she can arrange a time for you to pick up a copy from the church.

Rally Sunday Ministry Sharing: Next Sunday, September 13, would traditionally be our Rally Sunday morning with breakfast together and a ministry fair to follow. We can’t make that happen safely just yet, but we will enjoy our first live-streamed worship service from the sanctuary that morning, and we’d like to have a short ministry fair video comprised of short snippets from all of you! If you are the leader or chair of a committee, board, or group and would like to let the church know what is happening in your ministry arena and, perhaps more important, how others might get involved in that particular ministry (especially during these days of social distancing), and if you would like to partic-ipate in such a video, please record a one- to two-minute video to be shown following worship on the 13th. Here are a few guidelines to follow: 1. Use a smart phone and record the video in the landscape/horizontal position. 2. Do not worry if there is footage that needs to be cut off at the beginning or the end of the video. 3. Try to record the video in a quiet place with limited background noise. 4. In your message, try to highlight the ministry and how people can get involved. 5. Send or share the finished recording with [email protected] no later than Wednesday, September 9 at midnight. If you need help doing this, just reach out to pastors Jeff or Libby (at the emails on the back page of the bulletin) or David Frisk ([email protected]).

While our typical Wednesday night gather will remain on hiatus until we can enjoy it together safely, we invite you to join us for an all-church picnic each Wednes-day night, beginning September 16, as long as the weather holds. We will meet in the south garden at 6 pm and invite you to bring a picnic supper and some chairs or a blanket to sit on. Individually wrapped desserts will be provided! Come one, come all... and invite a neighbor!

Neighborhood Pizza Party: Get Involved! This pandemic has been rough, and the pastoral staff have been brainstorming with some members about an event to have a little fun and get to know our neighbors a little better. So... we think it’s time for a Neighborhood Pizza Party! The date will be Friday, September 18, and we are going to set up our tent on the corner of Berwyn and Christiana to share pizza with our friends and neighbors. We are looking for volunteers to help make this event happen. If you want to get involved, reach out to Pastor Jeff or Pastor Libby at the emails on the back page of the bulletin.

Karen Darelius invites those who are interested to participate virtually in a National Day of Prayer event on September 26. The name of the event is The Return, and it is an invitation for us to come before God in prayer and repentance. Those interested can go to www.thereturn.org to register.

We welcome all people to begin or deepen their relationship with Christ through worship and study. We invite all believers to fully participate in the life and ministry of our church as members, leaders,

and lay staff. We celebrate the gifts and presence of diverse Christians among us—whether those differences be race, ethnicity, age, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, ability,

or socioeconomic status. We are blessed by our diversity and are unified in Christ.
