POT O’GOLD PARTY “St. Brigid Parish ~ Pot O’Gold (Elimination) Party” will be held Sunday October 25th, 2015 at 1:00PM in Neumann Hall, Choconut. A limited number (115) tickets are available at $ 100.00 each. Each ticket admits one person plus a guest to the party. Included in the ticket price will be beer/wine/and buffet style food. Over $ 8000.00 in prizes will be awarded including a grand prize of $ 3000.00. Everyone who buys a ticket will go home with at least a door prize. On the day of the party at intermission as many raffle tickets as possible will be sold for $ 5.00 each for (8) separate raffles for (8) more $ 100.00 tickets. There will also be as many raffle tickets as possible sold for $ 10.00 each for (2) separate raffles for (2) more $ 100.00 tickets. These final (10) tickets can only be awarded to someone who already holds one of the original 115 tickets. ST. GABRIEL’S PASSIONIST RETREAT CENTER—FALL RETREATS September 11-13: A Women’s Preached Retreat will be held at St. Gabriel’s Passionist Retreat Center, 631 Griffin Pond Road, Clarks Summit. The Retreat will be Directed by Rev. Vincent Boney, CP, of Saint Ann’s Monastery, Scranton. The Retreat begins Friday evening at 7:30PM and ends after the noon meal on Sun-day. (No meals are served Friday.) Preached retreats consist of conferences on the spiritual life, time for personal reflection, prayer service, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and Liturgy. October 16-18: The Passion of Jesus Christ, a Preached Retreat for MEN and WOMEN will be held. The Retreat will be Directed by Rev. Vincent Boney, CP of St. Ann’s Monastery Scranton. BUS TRIP TO PHILADELPHIA TO SEE POPE FRANCIS We have room for A FEW more people. Please call the Rectory (570-553-2288) as soon as possible if you would like to attend. Please feel free to invite friends from outside the Parish to attend so that we can fill the bus! The date is Sunday, September 27th. Meals are extra. (Or you can bring a brown bag lunch.)

Cost per person is $ 50.00. If you would like to go on the trip and are able to walk and stand as will be necessary, but are not able to afford the bus fee, please call the Rectory. A few seats have been paid for and now are available to someone who would like to go but are unable to finance the trip. At this point we do not have any specific information on when our group will be getting on the busses. We will publish the information as soon as we get it from the bus company. The information below has been provided by the Diocese of Scranton and is important information for our group to be aware of.

There are several ways for parishioners to participate in and experience the upcoming visit of Pope Francis. The Diocese of Scranton invites you to participate prayerfully in these ways:

Utilize the official hymn or prayer in some manner in your parish that week (found on World Meeting of Families 2015 website)

Share the pilgrim prayer journal, which will guide the prayer of those traveling by bus to Philadelphia for Mass with Pope Francis on Sunday, September 27th – this material will be published on the Diocesan website in early September, for everyone to share in your parish and family observances of this historic event. For parish groups or individuals who have already made arrangements to travel by chartered bus for the Papal Mass in Philadelphia on Sunday, September 27th, here is some additional information.

There are no tickets for the Papal Mass – it is a public event – do not let anyone try to sell you tickets.

Mass is scheduled for 4:00PM on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway.

For travel on this day, the details have not yet been published to the bus companies. As a matter of security, this information will only become available a few weeks before the Pilgrimage. Each bus will be assigned a bus coordinator, a secured parking lot, and an arrival and departure time.

This event is being described as a “walking event” – all pilgrims need to be prepared to walk several miles, to stand for lengthy periods, and to adjust to unpredictable circumstances in such a large crowd.

It is anticipated that pilgrims will need to bring onto your bus some type of food and beverage, but no information has been published yet about what type of personal belongings may be carried into the secured area. The managed highway access, along with the extreme volume of bus traffic, will make it impossible to consider a meal stop along the way. When we learn any more about permissible items to carry with you throughout the day, we will publish this information through your bus coordinators.

IS ANYONE INTERESTED IN TAI CHI FOR ARTHRITIS ??? Tai Chi for Arthritis is an ancient Chinese exercise that offers arthritis relief through slow, gentle movement. Classes are only (1) hour per session. We are asking if there would be any interest in holding classes at Neumann Hall. There would be a small fee for each session. Holy Name of Mary Parish, Montrose, will hold their 7th Annual Harvest Moon Festival beginning Friday, September 18th and continuing thru Sunday, September 20th. CATHOLIC CHARISMATIC RENEWAL Pope Francis has been challenging the Catholic Charismatic Renewal (CCR) to promote more active engagement in ecumenical outreach. In response, the CCR of the Diocese of Scranton is sponsoring a day of formation in ecumenism. It will be held on Saturday, October 3, from 8:30AM to 6:00PM at the Holy Family Spiritual Renewal Center near Nanticoke, PA. Registration for the day is $25 and includes three meals (breakfast will be served from 7:30 to 8:15). Overnight accommodations are available. This day will be an opportunity to pray, learn, discuss and fellowship, and will feature presentations by Dan Almeter, who is knowledgeable and experienced in many aspects of ecumenism.
