The slight name change ties the story in nicely with our overall theme for this term that is around sustainability, living and non-living things and the responsibility we have to look after what we have! All the classrooms are busy putting their item together as well as our dance and choir groups so keep an eye out on the news and views for what your child's class is up to! Next term in Weeks 4 & 5 we have the Keeping Ourselves Safe programme scheduled to run throughout our classrooms. This has significant input from Marty Laurie (our current Police Education Officer) who will be available next Thursday after school to answer any questions, or to discuss with you, any aspect of the Keeping Ourselves Safe programme. Please see the other insert in todays newsletter for further information on this. The Keeping Ourselves Safe programme is part of our schools Health programme and is run every second year. Over the last couple of weeks we have had a group of very enthusiastic children from Miro and Kauri, weeding and preparing the garden for the new season’s crops. Last years spuds were dug up, cooked and eaten on Monday in a very tasty casserole.

Our glasshouse got a makeover too. We look forward to seeing what the planting plan is!

Week 8 Term 3MANUKA Manuka have been practising writing with an audience in mind. This week we wrote for each other in our class. Next week we will choose another audience. Some want to write their stories for another class. Some want to write for Mr Lovelock. We will also publish our stories on our blog so the children have a wider audience and purpose for sharing their experiences. Thank you for contributing to 'Answer Garden' on our blog and sharing your ideas on habitats we should be looking after. Manuka will be creating persuasive posters to convince others that we need to look after the air, water and trees as a result of this survey. Certificates: Caitlyn for a great start to her school days and Robson for adding lots of detail to his stories. Kapai

KOWHAI A great week so far in Kowhai. We have just started persuasive writing and are learning how to convince an audience of what makes something living or non-living. We will be sharing our great writing with Manuka at the end of the week - also look out for it in our publishing books on Friday. In maths we are learning about area and comparing objects to put them in order from largest to smallest. Try it at home, who has the biggest hand in your family? What about the smallest? Our dance is starting to take shape and we are looking forward to showing off our moves at the production. We are loving having Miss van't Wout teaching us this week! Don't forget our shared lunch on Friday as we say farewell to Hollie who is moving away with her family. We will miss you Hollie!

Certificates Amilea Sparrow and Ethan Mitchell

RIMU We are all busy working on our new dance for the production and to help with this we need small umbrellas. If you have any spare umbrellas at home it would be great if we could borrow them until the production so that we can practise with them. We need 23 so if any friends or family have some we could borrow that would be really helpful. Keep looking at our class blog as the children are adding to it regularly.

Certificates: Aiden and Sam

RATA This Friday Rata are hosting our assembly. If your child has a speaking part they will have a script to practise on Thursday. We would love it if you can come along and support us. I will betaking two weeks leave from the 17th ofSeptember (Friday the 14th of September will bemy last day of Term 3). Therese McCombe

will be the teacher in Rata over this time. The routines will remain the same (as much as possible when there is a production to practice for). Therese will support the children in the lead up to production and on the night.

MIRO On Friday Miro are having a shared lunch with rooms Kowhai and Rimu to say goodbye to George, Jake and Holly Stodart. We will miss George's helpful nature and great sense of humor. We wish him and his family all the best. Please send along a plate to share. We will definitely miss you and will look at your blog to see what your new school is like. Don't forget to blog us back - Blake, Blake, Adam, Joel and Riley.Thank you for the boxes, we now have an ample supply. If you have any old news papers please send them along for us:)Have a great week

Certificates: Holly Muirhead, Blake Mitchell

TOTARA We are making great links in our reading to our Inquiry about habitats and sustainability! We are thinking about going to Kerr Bush to check out the native plantings that we have done previously and do some maintenance weeding / staking to keep our native patch growing strong and healthy habitats for native birds. Keep an eye out in the newsletter and notes if you would like to come with us! "We have a responsibility to the environment and we can make a difference!"

Certificates: Daniel Conner for working hard to have instant recall of your maths basic facts. Awesome!Cody Monaghan for working hard to have all his spelling words correct, well done!

KAURI Preparation for the production dance in Kauri is really fun. We have some movers in Room 8. For our costumes we need supplies that are to be reused from home. We would appreciate cardboard boxes, tin foil, bolts, electircal wire and old bolts and bits to glue to our outfits. We will make a list to bring home to parents as well. Any help in this area would be fantastic. Kauri

MATAI We are digging deeper into how we can be more sustainable at home and school. We have some parent surveys we would love to have you fill in on our blog. Each entry will earn you a chance to win a huge bar of chocolate!

We’re also looking forward to school ski trip tomorrow - we might see you there!
