Wildlife Resources Commission is supporting seven fun, family-oriented events to celebrate National Hunting and Fishing Day in North Carolina. Events provide attendees with op- portunities to connect with nature, test their outdoor skills and learn about fish- ing, hunting and wildlife conservation through exhibits and demonstrations, many of which are interactive and hands on. The Wildlife Resources Commis- sion is hosting four events at its education centers and two at its fish hatcheries in Watha and Hoffman. The Commission is supporting the Greenwing Fishing Event at Mackay Island National Wildlife Refuge in partnership with Ducks Unlimited Currituck and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Where: Outer Banks Center for Wildlife Education, Corolla Time: 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. What: Highlighting fishing and hunting activities at the beautiful Outer Banks Center for Wildlife Education. Learn fishing skills, try your luck at a laser shot target range, tour the exhibit gallery and explore the hunting and fishing heritage of Currituck Sound. Where: Mackay Island National Wildlife Refuge, Currituck County Time: 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. What: A day of fishing at Mackay Island. For $25, each participant will re- ceive a rod and reel combo, tackle, a t-shirt, Fish-For-Fun bags and a Green- wing membership. Lunch and beverages will be provided for participants and their families. Where: The Pisgah Center for Wildlife Education, Pisgah Forest Time: 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. What: Hands-on, interactive exhibits and demonstrations include fishing, outdoor cooking, archery, pellet rifle range, hunt master demonstration and much more. Indoor exhibits include an award-winning documentary on natural history and wildlife diversity of the mountains and five aquatic habitats with live fish, frogs, salamanders and snakes.

Where: Centennial Campus Center for Wildlife Education, RaleighTime: Noon - 5 p.m.What: Enjoy hands-on activities and demonstrations that teach you the important roles that hunting and

fishing play in North Carolina’s fish and wildlife conservation. Families—young and old—can par-ticipate in activities and watch demonstrations like: Wildlife Knowledge Test, backyard bass casting, fishing, Falconer’s Guild, mountain man camp, archery range, outdoor cooking, fly-fishing,

fly-tying, lasershot hunting simulator, planting native gardens, game tracking and recovery, outdoor survival and much more!

Where: McKinney Lake Fish HatcheryTime: 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.

What: A day of fishing at the Commission’s McKinney Lake Fish Hatchery. For $20, each participant receives a rod-and-reel combo, tackle, Fish-For-Fun bags and a Greenwing membership, which includes a quarterly youth magazine. Lunch and

beverages provided for participants and their families. In addition to fishing, partici-pants can enjoy a pellet rifle trailer, fire truck, wood duck trapping/banding demonstra-tion and retriever demonstrations.

Where: Watha State Fish HatcheryTime: 8 a.m. until noonWhat: A day of fishing at Watha State Fish Hatchery. The Commission will provide Fish-for-Fun bags filled with fishing-related items, and prizes will be awarded for the biggest fish in the two age groups (0-7 and 8-15). A $5 fee covers lunch and beverages for participants and their families. Sponsorships are available.

Pechmann Fishing Education Center, FayettevilleTime: 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.What: With more than 15 hands-on, interactive exhibits and demonstrations, Wildlife Expo is a great way to learn more about the natural environment and the important roles that hunting and fishing play in North Carolina’s fish and wildlife conservation. Activities at the Wildlife Expo include: archery, fishing, kayaking, seeing live birds of prey, mammals, frogs, turtles and snakes; testing duck and goose calls; fly-casting; identifying aquatic insects and much more! Participants age 15 and younger can register to win lots of great fishing-related prizes, including the grand prize, a lifetime sportsman license, generously donated by the family of John E. Pechmann.
