MALAWI NEWS From Fr. Saulos, the successor of Fr. Christopher Chatsogola now Parish Priest of Namalaka Parish: “On behalf
of the Parish of Namalaka (St. Joseph), thank you for the pieces of clothing from our sister parish, St. Brendan.
At Church Council meeting, leaders from all 6 churches agreed to give to the most needy ones in their respec-
tive churches. Pictures and names of the direct beneficiaries will be sent after the pastoral visit to them. Fur-
thermore, thank you for the effort made on the school feeding program. It was communicated by Bishop Mont-
fort Stima that St. Brendan sent $4,800 for the school feeding program. There will be a meeting on Monday
with the school feeding program committee to draw the budget and thereafter a report of expenditure will fol-
low. This week St. Joseph plans to pray for all benefactors from St. Brendan Parish for divine coverage in their
daily programs.”

Alphabet Soup for
Students—J JEREMIAH was not popular
with King Zedekiah. That
wicked king threw him in a
well until someone begged
for his life. When we get to
the Z’s we will learn more
about Zedekiah.
JESUS was a baby born in
Bethlehem when Quirinius
was the Roman governor
of Syria. His mother is the
Virgin Mary and his Father
is God the Father. Jesus of
Nazareth is actually GOD
THE SON. He came to
earth out of love for us,
died by the hands of
wicked people, and rose
from the dead. When we
die we will see Jesus with
our own eyes.
JOSHUA was the man
who took over after
Moses died.
Living Together with Different Religions The Catholic Church is a leader in what we call “Dialog.” Dialog is a way of talk-
ing about something serious over a long period of time.
La Iglesia católica es un lider en el diálogo entre las varias relgiones.
Think about it. Do you know anyone who is Muslim or Jewish
or another Christian religion?
El Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica nos enseña:
“The Holy Spirit...leads the Church on her missionary path…[walking] the road
Christ walked, a way of poverty and obedience, of service and self-sacrifice…
(CCC 852) Get to know someone of a different faith. Introduce yourself.
Sea generosa y amab le . Listen!
Genesis 2: 23-3: 15
The Burning Bush
I wonder how Moses felt when he
left Egypt. He probably thought
that he would never come back.
En egipto creció en un palacio. La
vida de Moisés fue muy diferente
en el desierto.
Here in the desert he lived the life
of a poor shepherd.
Imagínense la sorpresa cuando
Moisés vió algo muy sor-
prendente.
He couldn’t believe his eyes. A
bush was on fire but it wasn’t
burning up! What message did
God have for him?
Matthew 18: 10-14
The Lost Sheep
The Lost Sheep is a favorite par-
able. Why? Because we can imag-
ine how the little sheep felt when
the shepherd found him and
brought him back to his family.
“No dejará las noventa y nueve
en los cerros paaara ir a buscar
la extraviada?”
Jesus asked, wouldn’t most shep-
herds leave their 99 sheep to find
the one who was lost?”
Muchos pastores humanos de
ovejas dejaran el perdido para
cuidar a los demás.
But in this story, Jesus is telling
us that God is our shepherd. He
will always look for us when we
are lost.

LIFE CHAIN OCTOBER 1—1:30—3:00 PM Life Chain is a peaceful and prayerful public witness of pro-life individuals standing for 90 minutes praying for
our nation and an end to abortion. Come and join Life Chain! We will meet at the corner of Bothell Way NE and
522. (near where the old Bothell Safeway building was). There will be signs for you to hold as you peacefully
pray. Let’s pray to protect life from conception to natural death, as our Church teaches.
ST. BRENDAN WOMENS BOOK CLUB Fall is approaching and it’s time to cuddle up with a
great book. St. Brendan’s Book Club has selected a
great book for all-believers and non-believers; every-
one can benefit from this book. This well written short
book is entitled How to Be Holy by Peter Kreeft.
Come join this group on Monday,
September 25, at 7:00 pm in the Brendan House
Dining Room. Questions? Call Berni at 425-485-
4893 or Anneliese at 425-486-4225.
KNIGHT OF COLUMBUS CORNER
Knights Support Hurricane Relief
Before Hurricane Erma had even made
landfall, the Knights of Columbus had trucks
loaded with supplies rolling toward Florida. Bothell
Council 6686 was able to donate to this important
effort due to the support we receive from our fellow
parishioners! Ron Volk and the rest of the crew
cooked up a great pancake breakfast this past Sun-
day and we had a record turnout. This kind of sup-
port will ensure that the Knights will be ready the
next time our help is needed.
To join the Knights, call Kevin Van Hollebeke
206-240-0275.

Quiz of the Month: The spiritually adopted babies are now 8 months old.
During this month, nature puts the finishing touches on your unborn child.
What are these finishing touches? For answers to this question, please
check the kiosk and the beautiful picture of a new tiny unborn baby.
ST. BRENDAN GARDENS Thanks to all who were involved with the September garden work party—
those who labored so hard to clear the debris on the grounds as well as
those who provided the excellent meals and treats for them. How wonderful
to see parishioners working together on a common goal! Be sure to drive
along the southern and western borders of the church property to see where
the fantastic work was done...and where more work is needed. To continue
our project to improve “curbside appeal”, there will be another work party
on Saturday, Oct. 14 starting at 9:00 am. If you haven’t been able to join
us before, please grab your work gloves and tools and come for a fun and
satisfying time. We need many hands to try to get this project done before
the holidays! Lunch will be provided. Questions? Please contact Anneliese
at 425-770-2103. (Also, Please contact Anneliese at the work party or by
phone if your are missing any tools or other equipment left behind after a
previous work party..or if you accidentally picked up a tool that belongs to
someone else.)
ST. BRENDAN YOUNG AT HEART GROUP FOR SENIORS Senior parishioners are invited to join “Young at Heart” in the Church Nar-
thex for the first meeting for the 2017-18’ season...and what an enjoyable
meeting it promises to be! Our guest of honor will be Fr. Wichert, so this
will be an excellent opportunity to learn more about our new pastor and his
dreams for our parish. Please mark you calendar for 11:00 am on
Wednesday, October 4. Please bring food to share for the potluck luncheon
afterwards. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Donna at 425-
488-1373.

ONLINE GIVING
Every person’s finances
and family situation is dif-
ferent. Jesus makes it
clear that it matters not
how much one gives, but
that it is planned, calcu-
lated, at least some-
what sacrificial (see Luke
24:1-4), and not simply
from what is “leftover” at
the end of the month. We
propose the tithe (10%) as
the ideal every family can
consider working to-
wards. This means taking
steps to give 5% to one’s
parish, and 5% to other
charities or causes you
have personal passion for.
You can register online at
www.saintbrendan.org
and click on the link
“Online Registration/New

corner of website and to
give online, click on the
“Online Giving” link. It’s
quick, secure, convenient,

helps sustain our parish.
If you need help with
online giving, please call
