SEPTEMBER 2019 NEWSLETTER Messages from the committee Could we please request that attendees at the monthly meetings respect the speakers by keeping silent during the presentations? Those who are interested in the topics of the presentations are unable to hear the content and the speakers are finding it more difficult to be heard. Many thanks for your assistance in this delicate matter. REMINDER – As you are aware, Caer Urfa U3A are required to ensure that their records are kept up to date and to maintain accurate records to comply with GDPR legislation. Could we therefore ask that all members who have moved house, changed phone number or email address ensure that they update their information by advising our membership secretary as soon as possible. Thank you for your help. THIS MEETING 4 th September 2019 SPEAKER Colin Bourdiec TOPIC “George Formby Story” Prospective New Groups Owing to lack of interest, it has been reluctantly decided that we are unable to offer an archery group. Discussion Group – If interested please see Cheryl, topics will be agreed so everyone has their input and opportunity to participate in a full open discussion. SCAM AWARENESS It appears that that not all is as it seems! When purchasing goods and services online, we normally look for reviews of how others rate the service, item and reliability of the items we wish to purchase. In the past this would more than likely have been in the form of ‘word of mouth’. When we buy from Amazon and other online shops one now needs to be extra vigilant, more and more cases are being exposed of ‘fake reviews. These fake reviews are expressly there to encourage us to purchase the item. Be careful and treat all reviews with suspicion and rely more on the feedback and advice offered by friends and acquaintances NEXT MEETING 2 ND OCTOB ER2019 SPEAKER JOHN W PATTISON TOPIC “Broken Promises”
