A Note About Placement

i n f o @ a n n p a r s l e y s c h o o l o f d a n c e . c o m

During the first few week of classes, teachers will evaluate the placement of students. At APSD, student placement is determined first by individual skill levels as assessed by instructors, not by age. Ages and levels that are listed on the schedule are an average of students in the class. Each student is carefully evaluated and placed in a program best suited to his or her goals and abilities that will provide safe, technically correct training, as well as a challenging, well-rounded appreciation of dance. It is very important to remember that all students are individuals and therefore, are evaluated on an individual basis. Each student has different strengths and they will not all progress at the same rate. The staff at APSD will place students in the most appropriate level to correctly and safely strengthen technique which guarantees a successful learning experience We are absolutely committed to provide proper training and technique for all of our students. If a student moves on to the next level before they are ready, they are at an increased risk of injury. Most importantly, it is difficult for a student to improve in a class that is too challenging for them. They spend their time trying to remember the pattern of steps or becoming familiar with a step they may not have learned yet, rather than perfect the steps. We are asking that you please respect the placement decision of the teachers. All of

the teachers at APSD are highly qualified, trained and experienced and are placing

them according to what they feel is best for your dancer. If you have any questions,

please do not hesitate to talk to the teacher of your student.

Cecchetti Uniforms The focus of Ann Parsley School of Dance is to produce a well-trained, technically sound, versatile dancer with a solid ballet foundation. We take pride in our deep dedication to providing pre-professional classical ballet training for serious ballet students. In an effort to promote this austerity, we have decided to implement individual class uniforms for Cecchetti Syllabus levels I-VII. A uniform will allow our instructors the ability to more clearly view any errors in the classical line and overall technique of the dancer, while also fostering the discipline required to master this art and promote a more serious ballet school atmosphere. As our required pink tights allow teachers to see the lines in the legs, the leotards we have chosen for each level will do the same for the dancer’s technique. With implementation of the uniform, no individual stands out for better or for worse, helping promote the harmony and unity of the ballet school we strive for. The uniform will be a requirement of Grades I-VII beginning November 1, 2017. The leotards can be purchased solely via our new online store. Leotards will not be available for purchase in the studio. Sample sizes of each style will be available to view and try on at the front desk. Please note that the dress code change does not apply to non-Cecchetti classes. The classes that do not need to follow this dress code include: Mommy & Me, Creative Movement, Beginning Ballet, Cecchetti Primary levels I, II and III, non-syllabus ballet classes and other dance styles such as jazz, lyrical, etc. We realize this involves an additional initial expense, however we have done our best to select affordable, high quality leotards.
