SENIOR CENTER MONTH CONTINUED from Front Page:

Thurs. 9/21 — 2:45 pm “Secrets to a Longer & Healthier Life” w/ Kashmyra $15 SOC/$20 visitors.

Take charge of your health and extend your lifespan by discovering and integrating anti-aging habits the

healthiest older adults have in common — food, exercise, and other lifestyle choices. Newcomers who

arrive at 1:30 p.m. can join the EnerCHI Healing Movement class prior to this workshop for free!

Tues. 9/26 — 10 am “Everyone with Diabetes Counts” w/ Erin Strain (Alliant Quality Health) A hands-on

workshop that will help those of all ages work with their healthcare providers and take control of their

diabetes through nutrition, exercise, stress management, and goal setting. The first workshop in the

Diabetes Empowerment Education Program (DEEP) series, continuing on Tuesdays through October.

Th. 9/28 — 10 am “Personal Finance for Seniors” w/ Bob Overstreet (Retired certified financial planner

and local volunteer with the Search and Rescue team) Topics will include cash flow analysis, financial

asset classes, and post retirement allocation, as well as some tax, insurance and real estate planning.

Dottie Tinsley and SOC are happy to announce the return of Traditional Mountain Clogging at

the senior center in October. This class will start Monday, October 2, at 11 a.m. at

Silvermont and will run for six sessions —

Mondays and Fridays through October 23.

Participants should plan to attend every session

in order to retain the lessons. The class costs

$60 and allows for a maximum of six partici-

pants, so please call 884-3166 to sign up if you

are interested.

Tinsley has taught clog dancing for many years—

at Brevard College, the Jim Bob Tinsley Muse-

um, and the Heritage Museum in Brevard. She

has clogged at many venues throughout the

West, including the Gene Autry Museum in Cali-

fornia, the Buffalo Bill Historical Center in Cody,

Wyo. and other locations where her late hus-

band, Jim Bob Tinsley, was in concert.

Dottie and her late husband are local legends in

Transylvania County, as they have contributed

much to the arts and historic preservation of

U.S. traditions including cowboy music, writing

and of course, mountain clogging. Call today to sign up for this exciting opportunity!

A haunted book was unearthed in a hidden vault beneath Silvermont mansion. Those who discovered the book brought it to Bedlam’s Books, thinking they would be safe with the book in capable hands. No one was prepared for the mysteries that came with the discovery of the book. When the fearsome tome was opened and its old, worn pages were explored, dark powers awoke, bringing to life the most evil and fear-some creatures from legends and fairy tales. Brave adventure seekers, visit the book store/funeral home turned haunted house, and do your best to survive the trek. You must avoid the evil forces brought to life from within the book’s cryptic pages. Silvermont Opportunity Center would like to thank Charlotte Snelson, from the Salvation Army and Austin House, the mastermind behind this truly terrifying fundraiser for our senior center. Be sure to tell goblins and ghouls of all ages to join the fun for a haunt they’ll never forget!

Please think of our donation buckets as you would the collection baskets at church—Give a dollar a week or what-
