They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint. (Isaiah 40:31 NLT) The summer flowers are beginning to look shabby, vegetable gardens are pushing out the last of the summer harvest, families are scrambling for one last drip of vacation, and buses are rolling down the roads once more. Time for kids to get out of the pool and head back to school. But what if you just aren’t feeling it? What if your energy is sapped? Here are four suggestions to spike your stamina: 1. Pick up a good book for motivation. One of the best ways I have found to adjust my enthusiasm is to pick up an inspirational book. Now, the Bible would be my first choice; especially the Psalms. But after that, there are some good motivational titles written by Christian authors. The Purpose-Driven Life by Rick Warren is a classic. I’ve read it numerous times. Some other fine examples are, Chase the Lion by Mark Batterson, Fearless by Max Lucado, and If you Want to Walk on Water, You’ve Got to Get Out of the Boat by John Ortberg. Maybe you have a go-to book that has inspired you. Read it again (and share the title with me while you’re at it). 2. Don’t neglect your health. The weather’s getting cooler. Go for a hike. Use your derelict Y member- ship. My personal mantra for keeping fit is “Eat Smarter, Exercise Harder.” I don’t always obey it – but when I do it works for me. Isaac Newton’s law of inertia teaches that an object at rest will remain at rest unless acted on by another force. It might take the force of your mind to get your body moving, but it will be worth the effort. Exercise improves energy. 3. Get involved. The great thing about this time of year is that the opportunities for fellowship in the church increase: Gap groups, Wednesday evening meals, The Worship Team begins gearing up for Christmas. Try something new! Surround yourself with positive people who love the Lord. It is sure to increase your passion for life. 4. See things through God’s eyes. It’s easy to get stuck in the here and now. When your focus is locked on temporary things, your zest for life takes a hit. If you look through God’s eyes, you will see your present actions in light of eternity, and everything you do will take on added importance and urgency. Your life matters. Your efforts make a difference. Nobody else will ever take your place in this world. God only made one you – so be you to His glory!

Sermon Series: FUEL FOR FAITH

The Heart of Jesus

The idea of a spiritual heart transplant is avivid image to me; once you have the heart ofsomebody else inside you, then that heart is there.Jesus’ heart is inside me, and my heart is gone. Soif God were to place a stethoscope against my chest,he would hear the heart of Jesus Christ beating.

—Max Lucado

But What About Here?

At age 4, Anna was starting to make sense of prayer. Her par-ents had been praying with her since birth, but now her developing cog-nitive and language skills caused her to really ponder what it meant forher. One night, after tucking her into bead and leaving the room,Anna’s dad heard her voice. He paused outside the door to see if sheneeded something. But she was speaking to her heavenly Father: “DearGod,” Anna prayed, “when is the best time for me to talk to you? Ma-ma and Daddy say I can pray anytime, and I know you’re always listen-ing, but when will you be listening especially hard in Minneapolis?”

*The Lord’s Supper will be observed on Sunday, September 3rd

A Heart for People

As the Worship Team met this week, we began by brainstorming what it would look like togenuinely have a heart for people. Since we know this is at the core of Who God is, I was interestedto hear what our answers would be. To serve others, to be able to love the unlovable, to reach out tothose who are hurting, and to just be kind. These were all thoughts that surfaced as we contemplat-ed how we might flesh out having a heart for others. Our study passage from I Peter 4:1-12 gave usmore of an understanding how God empowers us to do these things and more. First of all, the apos-tle Peter asked that God's people arm themselves with the attitude of Christ, learning to think likeHim. Because Christ suffered, we, too, will suffer and these times will shape us by ridding us of oldsinful habits that once dictated our lives and by opening us up to pursue what God wants us to do.Later on in verse seven, Peter encourages us to take nothing for granted. Having experienced somedeep losses in my own life recently, I realize that the people God places in our lives may just be for aseason. Because of God's great love for us, we must take the opportunity to share the love, peace, and hope we have in Him through Christ our Savior while the opportunity is there. Peter also says

to be clear minded and self-controlled sothat you may pray. We are challenged to bealert to stay connected to our power source! We cannot have a heart for people that seemunlovable or who are hurting terribly in ourown strength.

Peter ends this portion of scripture bysaying, “Above all else, love each otherdeeply!” (I Peter 4:8, NIV) Love as if yourlife depended on it because loving othersmakes up for a lot of other things we handlewrongly. Let your love show by giving ameal to someone, offering a bed to the home-less. Use everything God has gifted your lifewith to be kind and generous to others.“That way, God's bright presence will be evi-dent in everything through Jesus and He'llget all the credit as the One mighty in every-thing—encores to the end of time. Oh,yes!” (I Peter 4:11, MSG) May we haveGod's heart for the people He puts in ourpath as we journey homeward!

Singing His Praises,

Darshan

You are the

salt of

the earth.Matthew

5:13 Salt Box

Have you ever looked at a room in

your house and thought to yourself, “Thisroom needs a makeover!”? So, you start tolook at paint colors, you choose one and

paint the room. Just in painting a room youhave given that room a fresh new look.

The youth room has recently had a paint job. Well, to be honest,

it has had a complete makeover! In there, we have a new space foryoung people to meet and hangout, learn about God, and grow closerto Him and each other.

So, if you are reading this and you are in the 7th – 12th grade orhave a teenager that is, I want to invite you to come down to the youth

room and check out this new space. It's a fresh start to a new yearhere at our Quaker Gap Baptist Church Youth Ministry, and we want

everyone to be a part of the exciting things that God has in store for us

this year.

This is what the Lord says: “When seventy years arecompleted for Babylon, I will come to you and fulfillmy good promise to bring you back to this place. For

I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord,“plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to

give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me

and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.You will seek me and find me when you seek me

with all your heart." Jeremiah 29:10-13

Daniel Parker
