AUSSIE CLEAN AIR VACS

Australian Pumps new “Clean Air” range of heavy duty wet/dry vacuum cleaners are setting a new standard for OH & S in the industry. The machines all feature a unique 99.9% filtration that allows the operator to do both a cosmetic and a healthy clean at the same time. Professional cleaning contractors complain about many vacs putting more dust mites and dust back into the atmosphere as they pick up. That results in a poor environment and has a direct effect on “Workers Comp” claims, especially where asthma sufferers may be involved. Australian Pump’s heavy duty poly propylene barrel vacs all now come with a unique Micro-web filter. The Microweb is a filter media construction from homopolymer acrylic fibre. It has a mi-croporous membrane applied to the collection surface. The result of this is not only a 99.9% filtra-tion system but major other benefits to the user. These include a quick and easy filter clean pro-cess based on the “caking” of dust on the filter. The results are better dust release and improved collection efficiency. The Aussie Microweb is essential for use on vacs where dust from limestone, bio chemicals, lead, sugar, cement, gyprock or precious metals is involved. It also works equally well in any factory or office cleaning application. It is particularly suitable for use in hospitals, clinics, aged care homes, or for that matter anywhere where an industrial wet/dry vac is required. All Aussie’s “Clean Air” range come with robust wheel or castor kits fitted. They are provided with 7 metres of durable power cable come with a great range of accessories. The standard kit` include 3 metres of flexible crushproof hose, a 2 piece chrome steel want with handle, crevice tool and round brush. Wet/dry vacs all come with an aluminium squeegee as well as standard hard and carpet floor heads for flat surface cleaning in any areas. The “Clean Air” range represents a new stand-ard in power with models available with up to 3 pow-erful 1200 watt, 240 volt motors supplied to provide great suction. Air flows of up to 181 litres per sec-ond are available depending on model. A free catalogue is available from Australian

Pump Industries, Distributors in all States, including

the Rapid Clean Group through Australia.

NEW FROM WOMA KARCHER GROUP

The EcoMaster ZWG is regulated by an integrated intermediate gear in a power range of 50

to 500 kW. This machine combines the complete range of high pressure applications in in-

dustry with an optimised fuel consumption.

The EcoMaster ZWG features a reliable, multi-stage intermediate gear with additional overdrive

function. This enables the fuel consumption to be minimised due to working at a low engine speed.

The right machine size is always available for every application.

Using the overdrive function provides a remarkably low fuel consumption at maximum output. The

machine can be operated at full power with optimal efficiency.

Noise emission is considerably reduced due to the speed reduction of the engine.

Shifting is conveniently controlled via a display and takes place without load during opera-

tion.

The machine has a soft start function in idle mode, which protects the pump, increases the ser-

vice life and reduces wear and tear.

Specific power output and fuel consumption are constantly indicated to allow full control over

operating costs. Noise emission is considerably reduced due to the speed reduction of the

engine. Contact WOMA on 1300 HPWATER or +61 8 94346622 or [email protected]

Honda 2016 Innovation Awarded to Pumps Australia

Pumps Australia Pl – Finalist in the Honda innovation - Australian National competition Pumps Australia’s Volcano 3000 series has been designed to be a low cost Compact & reliable Indus-trial Hot and Cold High 3200Psi Pressure Cleaner. Powered By Genuine Honda Gx270recoil 9 hp Unlike other Industrial pressure washers in its class the Volcano 3000 only uses the 12 volt charge from the special Honda GX270 Recoil start engine to Power the complete unit, including the boiler 12V fan motor and 12V ignition relays; Opposed to the traditional 240 volt circuit by using 240 V Ac Generators –and using inverters and complicated Circuit boards, Belts and Pulleys to power the unit as used traditionally in industrial hot and cold pressure washer units. Pumps Australia Has designed a pure 12 Volt Dc System to power the boiler system making it very safe for Operators and the mounting on rear of trucks, trailers or washBays.. or around Machinery The same 12Volt DC system has been approved by BHP-Billiton and Rio-Tinto safe for mine site operations for Diesel Powered hot and cold pressure cleaners .. Pumps Australia has specifically designed the Volcano 3000 for Handy man contractors, cleaning con-tractors, councils, hire companies and farmers without access to 3 phase power, and operating in Remote areas where access to power is not available.. The Volcano 3000 takes into account the ease of maintenance. Having the boiler coils inverted to the top of the diesel fired boiler (which has never been done before); high pressure water passes in and out of the top of the boiler unit, allowing electrical devices to be removed from the underneath of the boiler assembly allowing thermostats, flow switches and inlet and outlet water connections and housings to be protected from damage that usually occurs by moving the unit around sites and in transit. By effectively re-locating these electrical devices above the base of the frame into a cleaner environment it prevents early corrosion, allows for easy inspection and quick and easy maintenance. With no inverters, no circuit boards and no generators in sight, Pumps Australia has developed a prov-en circuit design, clever wiring and electrical components to ensure the unit is of industrial quality & reliability of operation.

INCIDENT Alert from WA Dept. Minerals & Energy OPERATOR TRAPPED BY SUCTION HOSE A truck mounted vacuum suction unit was being used to clean up fine and lump material at an ore processing plant, with the truck at ground level and the hose operator on a floor some 20m above.

The 6 cylinder 187 kw diesel engine driven vacuum pump was capable of in-ducing up to 1 bar suction and 2500 litres/sec through a 100 mm diameter convoluted rubber hose. A force of some 80 kg is developed at the nozzle.

On hearing over the radio communication system that the vacuum system was not functioning correctly, the unit operator checked the hose line from the truck to the operating floor. As the end of the hose was passed back to the hose operator, that person’s left hand and arm was sucked into the hose up to the shoulder. It took both persons up to 30 seconds to pull the hose off. The injured person suffered soft tissue internal damage requiring sur-gery and skin grafts.

IMMEDIATE CAUSES A job safety analysis was not conducted prior to carrying out what was

considered to be the common industrial practice of vacuuming up dry/wet material.

The hose operator had not been formally trained in the task. Vacuum suction was not recognised as a potentially hazardous energy

source. There was no means of rapidly breaking the vacuum, (or of shutting

down the pump), at the operating end of the hose.

COMMENTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS The combination of arm size, hose diameter and disposable overalls worn ap-parently created an effective seal, thus making release extremely difficult, under vacuum. A vacuum breaking device installed close to the end of the hose could pre-vent a recurrence, or provide for a quick release under any circumstance. Use of a handle or holding device could assist in keeping the end of a vacuum hose clear of the operator. A vacuum break could be incorporated in this.

What processes does your company have in place to prevent this type of incident occurring.

Recent advances in technology have introduced vacuum breakers and “E” Stops with some units having remote stopping devices. Older units may not have modern safety devices, if so are manual vacuum de-vices being utilised.
