After completing my Higher School

Certificate in 2008 I began my

locksmith apprenticeship in 2009 at

Archer Locksmiths, Chatswood. In

2012, I completed my Certificate IV

in Security and Risk Management,

studying in the evening to enhance

my knowledge and understanding

of the security industry. I completed

my apprenticeship in December

2012 and was placed first in Stage

3 Safe Technology. In 2013 I sat

the MLAA Apprentice of the Year

exam achieving a score of 97% and

joined the Master Locksmith

association. During the past two

years, I have been responsible for

training new apprentices and am

currently second in charge at

Archer Locksmiths.

day. It is very satisfying to draw on

been a busy year for Bentley since

winning the 2014 ABYL award.

Bentley is currently working on

various large scale access control

projects with electronic security

being an important part of ASAP

all areas of my knowledge and skills

to solve an interesting and

challenging problem. This gives me

a great sense of achievement and it

is always rewarding to see a

satisfied customer. I enjoy

impressioning locks, fabricating

new components for locks, opening

safes and creating a well-designed

master key system.

I attend annual security and

locksmith conferences, as well as

subscribing to newsletters. This

keeps me up-to-date with the latest

products and techniques. I have

also continued my studies, for

example, Certificate IV in Security

and Risk Management and studying

for my MLAA exam. In 2016, I

intend to enrol in a Bachelor of

Science (Security) at University. In

addition to this, I have also found

practical experience, particularly

working with a variety of locksmiths

and tradesmen from other fields.

I should be the next ABYL as I am a

motivated and a dedicated learner

and I am committed to maintaining

the integrity and standing of the

locksmith profession. I would be a

good role model to new

Locksmiths, sharing my skills with

and learning from other apprentices

and co-workers. I am passionate

about safe workplace practices. I

aim to educate others and model

safe practices daily. It would be an

honour to use this award as a

platform to raise awareness and

educate locksmiths about safe

workplace practices.
