    Professional Development

    Certification in Volunteer Administration- The "Certified in VolunteerAdministration" (CVA) credential is offered for practitioners in volunteer resourcesmanagement by the Council for Certification in Volunteer Administration. As aperformance-based certification, CVA is designed to measure an individual's"knowledge-in-use"--the application of knowledge and skills by those with real-lifeexperience in this role.     2014 Annual Gathering - Registration is open for the 2014 Annual Gathering,which will take place this year in Charlotte, North Carolina from October 4-7. There will be a special retreat hosted by the CCUSA Mission & Ministry Division,Blessings for Leaders: Leadership Wisdom from the Beatitudes of Jesus. Theretreat will be led by Dr. Daniel Ebener, Professor of Leadership at St. AmbroseUniversity and is open to all Catholic Charities staff and local Parish SocialMinistry Section members.     Fr. Larry Snyder Announces Plans to Transition from Leadership Role - Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA) announced that its president, Rev. Larry Snyder,has accepted a leadership position at the University of St. Thomas, a Catholicuniversity based in the Twin Cities of St. Paul and Minneapolis. CCUSA islaunching a national search for Snyders replacement and he will assist in thesearch process.

    Snyders last day at CCUSA will be Jan. 31, 2015. He will start Feb. 1 as theuniversitys Vice President for Mission, responsible for furthering the universitysmission of educating students to be morally responsible leaders who thinkcritically, act wisely, and work skillfully to advance the common good.

    Partnership with First Books to Support Migrant Children -CatholicCharities USA has joined forces with First Book to provide individuals theopportunity to provide books to the families and unaccompanied minors who havecome across the border as part of the ongoing humanitarian crisis.     Presidential Seal of Approval: To mark the 20th anniversary ofAmeriCorps, President Obama delivered remarks during an AmeriCorpspledge ceremony at the White House on September 12.
