Not having parents around left a huge void in my life and I didn’t receive the proper guidance and direction to equip me for adulthood and fatherhood.

When my son was born three years ago, my abandonment issues I had developed as a child began to surface. This was way too much for my son’s mother to handle, so she left as my actions became very unattractive to her.

I cannot thank you enough for putting together the Parenting On Purpose series. It has given me direction and it is a useful tool in helping me with the development of my relationship with my son.

This year I turned 36. I started a new tradition on my birthday to take my son on an adventure he has never done before. This year we went paddleboarding. On the way home from the beach, I had an unconditional love experience with my son. Traffic was terrible on the drive and I was grumbling out loud and he heard me from the back seat. He asked “What’s wrong Daddy?” and I told him I was just grumbling about the traffic and things I cannot control. I told him “don’t worry, be happy”. He then said to me, “don’t worry, be daddy”!! Wow, I’m a daddy.

He has a purpose in my life and I will work every day to be a man he can look up to. Trust is not my strong suit so finding any kind of mentor has been challenging. I found ParentingOnPurpose.org and it has helped so much. Listening to your podcasts has given me more direction than I have had in a very long time.

So again, thank you. It’s working!
