Dear Beloved of God, The new school year is well underway, and the Fall Festival is upon us. I hope that all students at Notre Dame School have had a good, strong and joyous start to the new year. We are very pleased to have such a large number of students enrolled in our school this Fall. I am calling upon all parents to take an active role in their children’s studies at Notre Dame, and at Our Lady of the Hills, and to participate in as many school events and programs as you possibly can. I am also calling upon all Notre Dame parishioners to participate as fully as you can in the Fall Festival. This year’s festival will be my fourth at Notre Dame--can you believe it? The Fall Festival is very important to our school, and so I am very hopeful that this year’s festival will be a great success. Everyone who is involved with making it a huge success – all those who provide the food, the activities and those who set up and take down, and clean up, all the security, and everyone who offers their time and work are in my prayers. I am thankful for all that you do, and I want you to know your efforts are greatly appreciated. I also want to encourage all Notre Dame parishioners to participate in the various ministries at the parish such as altar servers, lectors, Eucharistic ministers and many more. Serving in lay ministry is a great way to learn more about our Catholic Faith and to grow in our knowledge and love of the Lord. I encourage all Notre Dame parishioners also to take advantage of our church library. There are books available in the library itself, and there are some books available in the narthex. Also in the narthex we have a great selection of CDs on various topics of the Faith. These you can take home, and we ask that you offer a donation in exchange as you are able to do so. All of these educational opportunities at Notre Dame are for our edification and growth in our Catholic Faith. Please come to a future teaching session, or check out a book or CD soon.

Pope Francis calls the church to be permanently in mission. He calls for everyone to be a missionary. We can participate in the mission through prayer; an hour of adoration. This hour is a great and unrepeated opportunity for a young parent or grandparent to teach their tender lambs our faith and reverence to our most humble Majesty, The Good Shepherd Jesus. Please join us in just one hour of adoration a week out of nearly 124 weekly hours to choose from. An adorer is needed for:

Saturday 10:30 a.m.—11:30 a.m. If you are able to help with this time, please call Veronica Fabro at (830)377-9117.

sabado 10:30 a.m.—11:30 a.m.

We Need More Ministers!

The weekend of September 14-15 will be ministry sign-up weekend at Notre Dame. We have many, many ministries parishioners may join and become involved in here at the parish. For instance, we need more altar servers, choir members, lectors, Eucharistic ministers, and many more. Becoming part of a ministry at Notre Dame will be a great opportunity for spiritual growth. After each Mass next weekend, there will be sign-up sheets available in the Narthex and outside. Please prayerfully discern if you are being called to participate in ministry. Hint: you are!

Fr. David

The Miraculous Medal – Stories, Prayers and Devotions by Donna-Marie Cooper

O’Boyle reviewed by Deborah Harris tells the story of how the Blessed Mother visited Sister Catherine Laboure in the motherhouse of the Daughters of Charity in Paris, giving her instructions for making the Miraculous Medals. At that time, there was unrest, revolution, and wars; hopelessness was settling in on France. Many lost their faith or stopped believing and the Blessed Mother told Sister Catherine that “these are evil times.” Today, we live in evil times as well, where people have lost or do not practice their faith. This book recounts the history of St. Catherine Laboure and reveals many modern day occurrences of the spiritual effects and benefits of wearing

the Miraculous Medal. Born on May 2, 1806, just as the Angelus bell was ringing, she was one of “seventeen” children (only eleven survived). She would be the saint who would herald in the Marian age. Her mother would die when Catherine was nine. Catherine felt utterly lost. One day Catherine walked into her mother’s room, got a chair and reached up to the statue of the Virgin Mary, took it down and hugged it. She said “Now dear lady, you are to be my Mother.” You could imagine her sadness. One night when Catherine was eighteen, she had a dream. She saw an elderly priest at mass who told her to follow him to the sacristy. She was frightened and ran away. Shortly after this, she had another dream showing her visiting an old sick women. The same elderly priest was there telling her that it is a good deed to look after the sick. When Catherine was twenty-two, she asked her father if

she could become a nun. Her father flat out said NO. One

day Catherine went to visit the sister superior of a hospital run by St. Vincent de Paul. As she sat down she saw a picture on the wall of that same elderly priest in her dreams. She asked who it was and the sister superior said it was their founder, St. Vincent de Paul. In January 1830, Catherine became a postulate in the hospice of the Daughters of Charity. Shortly after she entered her new home in the motherhouse in Paris, God granted her several extraordinary visions. On three consecutive days, she saw the heart of St. Vincent de Paul above his reliquary, which held his relics, each time under different aspects. At other times, she saw our divine Lord in front of the Blessed Sacrament; this would occur especially during mass when He would appear as He was described in the liturgy of the day. Part 2 of 2 will be in the bulletin next week.

and to deepen their relationship

with God. As they journey, they

will treasure knowing that they are in the

prayers of those in this, their new community

of brothers and sisters in Christ. Please pray

for them, especially as they meet on Tuesday

evenings.

People interested in RCIA are still welcome to

come and join us at this time. We

meet in the Social Center from 6:00 pm to

8:00 pm every Tuesday.
