Home Community Preparation for Ministry – Week 1 What is a Home Community? #1 – Read Acts 2:42-47 and discuss how this can be lived out. #2 – Talk through the following guidelines for a HC in light of Acts 2:42-47. Break bread together. Commit to weekly meetings. Commit to being an everyday church. Keep confidences. Be transparent, authentic. Actively participate in prayer for one another. Look out for the good of the whole, assuming the best in others. Listen well, don’t dominate conversation. Strive to grow spiritually by applying the word to life in community. Get out of my comfort zone to be on mission together with HC. Always inclusive and welcoming to newcomers. Purpose to grow and multiply in 12-18 months. #3 – In the following weeks here is the basic plan of what we will do: 1) Define your group in the next three weeks concerning how you will be family, servants, and missionaries together in community. 2) Bible storying starts mid-October (see list of scriptures in booklet, see questions each week in bulletin). 3) The group will divide into men and women once per month during the normally scheduled HC meeting for deeper fellowship. Deuteronomy 6:4-9, “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.

You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.”

Shema – “ to listen ”

1. Live it

2. Teach it

Faith Talks – intentional time set aside for conversations based on Scripture. Weekly family devotions around the kitchen table, a walk to the park, a family trip to Starbucks.

God sightings – informal moments in life as “walk” though the everyday journey. Small or big moments where kids notice us in our devotions, have relationship problems, or ask about communion (Evelyn).

Regular time of the day that can include conversation, prayer, blessing, songs, or kisses. Ask about their day: highlight and lowlight

BI: Helping the next generation grow in their relationship with God is a biblical partnership that involves the family and the church.

FOUNDATIONS

Exploring the Faith - Classes for Adults

Throughout the year we will hold three classes on

Exploring the Faith; Foundations, Membership, and

Growth. Each MONTHLY class starts at 6:30pm,

beginning Wednesday September 16. Classes will

have a give and take, question and answer flow to

them. They are recommended for everyone, and

the Membership class is required to become a

member and serve at Grace Church.

Foundations – This months class will cover some

of the foundational doctrines and practices of the

Christian faith; such as Justification by Faith,

Baptism, Communion, the need for a Small Group,

the need for growing in God’s word, the need for

deliverance, etc. If you are a new Christian, it’s

important to have someone walk you through these

foundational elements of the Christian life so that

you will not get stuck spiritually. If you are a long

time Christian, these classes could be useful to help

you shore up some of the gaps in your faith and

practice. We hope you will join us.

WED 6:30PM IN THE FAMILY ROOM

USING YOUR GIFTINGS AT GRACE

Where do I fit in? What are my gifts and

how can I use them at Grace? How can I

get more involved in this community? I

would like to serve in another way than I

am right now, but I’m not sure who to talk

to about that. This will be explored in

more depth as Home Communities begin

in September. You won’t want to miss it!

If you haven’t taken the Three Colors of

available at the Welcome Center.

ONLINE GIVING

For those giving their tithes and offerings

online, we ask you to consider setting up a

bank transfer rather than using a debit or

credit card for your online giving. As we

work to be good stewards of the funds you

donate to Grace, the actual costs to

process a credit or debit card can be

anywhere from 2% for debit cards to over

4% per transaction for credit cards. With a

bank transfer, it is only 1% plus .29 per

transaction. Thank you and we appreciate

your consideration in this matter.

MISSIONAL MOPPET HELPERS

Picture moms and their kids, some who

know God, and some who do not,

purposing to come together for refresh-

ment and fun. YOU can have an eternal

impact on young families the 1st and 3rd

Mondays from 9:15-11:30p starting

September 21. Contact Heather May at
