is the place to be on September 29. Young at Heart is having their fall luncheon at Brazenhead Irish Pub

in Mason at 12:30 p.m. Meet here at noon to carpool. Brazenhead has delicious food and the Young at Heart group always has a great time. See Jack or Charlotte McCarthy if you have any questions. Come on out and join us!

Calling all kids (and adults)!!

Come to Covenant on September 8 from 6:30-8PM for some yummy ice

cream. And at 7:00 we’ll be entertained by an awesome juggler.

Bring your family and friends after dinner and save room for dessert!

We’re back to two services starting September 9.

Our Traditional Service will start at 9:30 a.m.

while the Contemporary Worship Service will

begin at 11:00 a.m. Don’t forget to stay for

fellowship after the 9:30 service or come early

before the 11:00 a.m. service! Speaking of

fellowship, sign up now to bring in bagels,

donuts, pastries, etc. Thank you for volunteering!

It’s September and we’re starting our new study, “Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World.” Our next meeting will be September 10, at 6:30 p.m. We meet in the small room next to Ken’s office. Betty King will be leading this study. Several women have started reading this book already and have found it very

interesting and helpful. If you have any questions, see Linda Eaton or call her at 436-3537.

Please join us and bring a friend!

Starting on Tuesday, Sept. 25th at 1PM here at the church, the Amicae Circle will begin a new Horizon Bible Study. The title this year is “Dispatches to God’s Household, the General Epistles”, which are 1–2 Peter, 1-3 John and Jude.

Through the General Epistles, God calls believers together as members of the divine household. Sounds interesting? Come join us as Pastor Ken unfolds the

sources of these writings.

On any given Sunday we have families, large and small (sometimes as small as one!), worshipping with us who have never officially joined Covenant. Are you one of those families? Are you interested in taking the step to become a communicant member? If so, let me know. I would like to schedule a time when a group can get together and talk about church membership, meet with the session, and join the church.

I have scheduled a couple of these gatherings recently, but the times never seemed to work for those interested in joining. So I thought I’d try this new approach. Let’s see who is interested and

I’ll try to schedule around your schedules! Will that work? Let me know your wishes. Thanks - Ken

We have 2 gallons of primer paint leftover from painting the nursery. They cost $25.00 each but we will make you a deal if you would like to purchase one or both gallons. They are tinted grey, so we are unable to return to the store where purchased.

If interested, see Jen Knoth.

Remember the mother cat and her kittens that were dropped off at Church back in the beginning of May? John Ritzinger took them in and many of us chipped in to help offset the costs of food and medical bills. John found homes for the kittens, but was unable to find a home for the mother cat. He kept her until recently when he took her to the Warren County Humane Society. For a $25 fee they took her in to find her a home. She is currently being cared for at the

center until a home is found.

The greatest season of the year is about to come upon us. Fall! I love fall: the cool mornings

and evenings, and the warmth of the fall afternoons. Fall is my favorite time of the year.

With the hot summer we’ve endured, the cooler temperatures of fall will be greatly enjoyed.

When Diane and I were at the Christian Life Conference over the 4th of July weekend, it was

so hot, even in the mountains of North Carolina just east of the Smokey Mountains, that one

of the leaders suggested, “It got so cool last night some of you actually pulled the sheets up!”

Blankets certainly weren’t needed. But now that blanket will feel good as the cool air rushes

through our windows.

But it’s not just the weather that makes fall pretty special to me. Fall means college football!

I’m certainly excited to see how my beloved Buckeyes do. I can sit and watch almost any

college football game and enjoy the competition along with the skills and abilities of the

players on the field. But it’s not just the individual skills and abilities I watch for. I also

watch for the incredible teamwork that makes a bunch of players really a team. The block of

the lineman that sets a running back free for a long gain is awesome to see. The stunts by the

defensive line that paves the way for a quarterback sack is sure enjoyable to watch. The wall

of blockers set up to open a path for a huge punt return is absolutely exciting. Slow motion

replays make these special plays even more special. Football, at any level, is a game played

by individuals; but a game played as a team.

The church is a team. Elders and deacons provide great leadership. The choir and the praise

band lead us in worship. We have many who spend time and energy to teach our children.

Worship Guides are available every week. Coffee and refreshments show up on the fellow-

ship table every Sunday. Prayers are lifted to the Lord every day for the church and those for

whom we pray. Our building is kept clean, inside and outside. Small group leaders gather

their little flocks for study, prayer, and fellowship. The offerings, both great and small, are

given every Sunday. We reach out into the community with the love of God.

Here’s my point – the church is people giving themselves over to the God who has made

himself known to us in Jesus. The church is people like you and me joining together as a team

to be a part of God’s Kingdom here on earth, trying to live faithful lives in response to God’s

incredible grace given to us in and through Jesus. The challenge before each of us is this: be

the best players possible, fulfilling our tasks, so the team can be the best team possible!
