According to Robin, the best part of being in the Bucking Bull indus-try is watching the bulls grow, get big, buck, and also meeting new people. Thank you, Box K, for giv-ing juniors an opportunity to do the same.

Junior Sponsor Highlight: Box K Cattle

year’s American Heritage event was special because it was the first that Kaleb’s little sister, Karis was old enough to compete in. For the 2011 season, Box K Cattle is presenting youth jackets to any junior member who has entered more than one event. But the generos-ity doesn’t stop there. Box K supports lots of kids’ programs. Robin says, “It’s a worthwhile cause, our kids enjoy it. It also helps new kids and encourages those who might want to be stock contractors themselves or go into animal science.”

It was actually Ken’s son, Kaleb, who prompted Dad to get into the business of bucking bulls.

The story of Box K Cattle begins with Kaleb King asking

his dad, Ken, why they didn’t have PBR bulls like he saw on TV. Four years and many great buck-ing bulls later, Box K is now a common name among the bucking bull industry. Ken and Robin, along with son and daughter Kaleb and Karis, are active mem-bers in ABBI and participate in Classic, Futurity, and Junior Futu-rity competitions. The King Family is no stranger to the Junior Breeder program. Last year, Kaleb competed with his bull 05 Sofa Pizza, and with 774 Twighlight the year before. This

is that the book is about my all time hero: BUSHWACKER!

D&S Schellenberg wrote the book, and the illustrator is Linda Rosser. Bushwacker grew up on the same ranch as Linda Rosser, so she is the perfect person to capture Bushwacker and all his beauty in water color.

Look for it at World Finals, as that will be the first time anyone can get their hands on it. I know that I’ll be asking my mom to read it to me every night be-fore I hit the hay.

Thanks for a great season in 2011. I can’t wait to see you and all my friends in October at the South Point Arena.

Hello Folks!

I am happy to say that the summer has been full of fun surprises. One of my favorite surprises is that this is the first year there will be a Junior Futu-rity event during World Finals in Las Vegas. I have already started packing—you can’t have too many bling-filled shirts in LV.

Another surprise I’ve been looking forward to is the creation of a new children’s book. I have been helping the ABBI and PBR office publish this book, and there is lots to do! The best part

PBR takes entries for these events, and picks riders based

on the following criteria:

One-night performance events are 30 or 35 Rid-ers who have PBR Cards, chosen in order of qualifier standings, plus 5 Permits chosen by random draw.

Two-night performances are 60 or 70 PBR cardholders chosen in order of qualifier standings, plus 10 Permits by random draw.

While the payout is al-ways different depending on the event and number of entries, ABBI paid out almost $60,000 in prize

money to Juniors in 2010

Junior Futurity?

Black Pearls’ Pearls of Wisdom

In 1995, Bodacious of Andrews Rodeo Co., Inc. was named PBR’s first-ever ‘Bull of the Year’. Cattle were first do-mesticated about 5,000 years ago. Modern domestic cattle evolved from a single ancestor, the aurochs (pronounced or-oks).

The buck order for ABBI events is always determined by random draw. This means that no bull is guaranteed to be first or last—it’s different every time.
