For Aros, human resources arean asset to be cultivated. An ongoing training programmehas been underway for sometime now and this involves aseries of courses held by technical experts at the company headquarters. The courses are aimed mainly at distributors and installers whocan, in this way, be trained toprovide an improved professional consultancy service to the endcustomer. Aros is a synonym fortechnological innovation, backedup by three advanced researchcentres where work is constantlycarried out to produce innovativeand state-of-the-art solutions. At the specific request of a customer, the Aros R&Dcentres can work on productsthat are already in production toadapt them to the customer’sparticular requirements. As well as developing hardwaretechnology, the R&D centres areat the cutting-edge of UPS software implementationsthrough the proprietaryWatch&Save software; the standard version of which is distributed on all UPSs.

For Aros, quality is a full-time commitmentAros worked for 13 years underthe rigid IBM quality practices to achieve UNI EN ISO 9001 totalquality certification in 1999. The certification body DNV firstevaluated, approved and certifiedthe internal quality manual, a veritable set of instructions towhich all production processesmust be submitted in order toensure the constant high qualityof Aros products. The UNI EN ISO 9001 totalquality certification also covers the section dedicated to on-siteand remote support service.

At the customer’sservice

UPService, a full customerservice, is made up of a team technicians within Aros. A FreePhone number connectscustomers directly with a helpdesk that can respond to anyquestion, carry out remotediagnostics and organize, viaservice centres locatednationwide, on-site repairs,replacement under guaranteeand start-up within 24 workinghours. A 24 hour a day, 365 daysa year support service hasrecently been set up with atechnician constantly available by telephone (a sort of UPSguardian angel) who can respondto a customer’s call within 4 hours and a maximum of 8hours. Aros has also developed a remote control system,Teleguard, for the control and monitoring of UPSs locatedanywhere in the world andconnected via serial line, via network or via modem.

Sentry Multistandard uses ON-LINE double conversion (VFI)technology whereby the load isalways powered by the inverterwhich ensures a filtered and sta-bilized sinusoidal voltage.Furthermore the input filters sig-nificantly increase the immunityof the load to mains noise andlightning.Multistandard is able to operateas an Eco Mode/Line interactiveUPS too. Selection can be mademanually or automatically. Inautomatic mode Multistandarduses the most efficient and cost-effective way to protect the load,in accordance with the real-timeconditions of the mains.When the mains is stable,Multistandard operates in Ecomode with the result of highenergy saving and efficiencyjumping to 98%.However, when the mains volt-age and frequency fluctuate out-side some present parameters,Multistandard switches instanta-neously to On-line operation toprovide total protection not onlyfrom mains failure, brownouts,sags, spikes but also from moresubtle problems such as electri-cal noise and frequency instabili-ty.

Multistandard is furnished by anoperator panel (built-in orremote) which provides clearlyand timely information on operat-ing status.Through specific functions theuser can modify parametrerssuch as: nominal output voltage,accepted voltage/frequencyrange on bypass line during theOn Line operation and/or EcoMode operation, battery capaci-ty. At the same time it can oper-ate as frequency converter 50Hz>>60Hz or viceversa. In thiscase the static bypass is auto-matically disabled by the micro-processor.The Multistandard diagnosticssystem includes a set of 128system codes each correspon-ding to a specific condition,allowing a precise and detailedidentification of any event.

Multistandard is also “friendly” tothe mains because, thanks to itsPFC (Power Factor Correctionsystem), it absorbes mains cur-rent with almost powerfactor 1 and very low distortion.

Multistandard represents a newbenchmark in the UninterruptiblePower Supply world.Thanks to:• High reliability through global

operation efficiency• Easy installation: the single

phase output range can be installed in both three-phase systems, without presetting

it’s particulary suitable for smallcomputer networks, Local AreaNetworks (LAN), servers, datacentres, computer rooms andelectro-medical, emergency andtelecommunications equipment.

LCD display with LEDs Located on the front of the unit, allowsan easy and intuitive use of the UPS. Itis used to read the most important elec-trical measurements in both input andoutput, it indicates the general UPSoperating status and also signals faultsand alarms.

2 RS232 communication ports Enable direct communication betweenUPS and PC where, by means of theWatch & Save software, the variousfunctions of the equipment can be con-trolled and managed.

EPO “Emergency Power Off” Connector This contact is used to shutdown the UPS and disconnectthe load in an emergency (fireor fault)

Slot for SNMP expansion or another RS232 An additional interface can be inserted in thisexpansion slot: a second RS232 or an SNMPinterface for computer network communica-tion.

Stand by-on This transforms the UPS from On Line to LineInteractive, with the subsequent reduction ofconsumption and increase in efficiency.

Smart Active With this function, it is the UPS itself thatdecides, on the basis of mains and appliedload conditions, whether to operate On-Line,giving preference to load safety, or in Lineinteractive mode, for lower energy consump-tion.

Stand by-off Allows the UPS to work, off-line, as a back-up, with the advantage that the UPS does nothave to be oversized to provide for peak cur-rent on load start-up.

Frequency converterThe UPS can be programmed to operate as afrequency converter with batteries, with 50 Hzinput and 60 Hz output or vice versa. This canbe selected via the mimic panel.

Active control(LCDR: Low Ripple Current Discharge) allowsthe control of the battery current even in thedischarge phase, by limiting the AC compo-nents on the batteries (ripple at 50 and 100Hz), which are damaging for the life of thebatteries.

Static by-pass Zero time switch ensuring that the load ispowered even in the event of a UPS failuredue to overload or fault.

Back Feed Protection This safety device is triggered in the event ofa mains failure; it isolates the UPS from theinput plug thus preventing voltage back feedon the line that could put the user at risk.

Battery Saving This saves the batteries from excessive con-sumption, thus extending their lifetime. In theevent of micro mains supply interruptions, theUPS draws energy directly from the capaci-tors.

Deep discharge protectionThis device increases the end of dischargevoltage of batteries with low loads, ensuringin this way that the batteries are not dam-aged by deep discharges.

Recharge compensated with temperature This system ensures high battery efficiencyand reduces ageing.Automatic and manual battery test Allows periodic checking of battery efficiencyto avoid faults; this fast operation does notaffect the lifetime of the batteries or the back-up.

AccessoriesCode Models

Remote panel Exactly the same as the standarddisplay with LEDs on the UPS, itallows control and monitoringfrom a remote location.

Harmonic filters (3-phase models)Placed inside the unit reduce the harmonics reflected towardsthe mains, to 5% and increasethe input power factor to 0,99.

Battery expandability The standard UPS back-up timecan be expanded by means ofadditional battery modules. Whenvery high back-up time isrequired, battery expansioncomes equipped with a batterycharger to reduce rechargingtime.

Separation transformer Located on the by-pass line, itsfunction is to create a UPS out-put system that is separate fromthe input power supply system.The output neutral is connectedto earth thus improving noiseprotection.

Parallel connection kitSystem of connection used fordistributed redundant parallelconfigurations of up to six units;the available power is increasedand system reliability isenhanced.

TeleguardTeleguard is a system for remotecontrol of UPSs connected viaserial line, via network or viamodem.
