Give this Form to your counselor listing ALL of the colleges your are applying to. You must notify your counselor if you add/or delete colleges from your list or change any deadlines!

FERPA WAIVER:Give this required form to your counselor, so that your transcript, letters of recommendation and other supporting documents can be sent to the colleges that you will be applying to.

You must utilizeyour Naviance account to keep track of your college applications and request to have your documents sent.

Dashboard:Provides a clear and convenient way to review deadlines and submission statuses for all the colleges to which you are applying!

Note: This must match your Naviance Account.

Types of DecisionsEarly Decision (ED)Under Early Decision, students are permitted to apply early only to one college or university. If they are accepted, students are legally bound to attend that school (and are forbidden to apply to all other schools). Typically, Early Decision applications are due November 1.

Early Action (EA)Under Early Application or Early Action (also called multiple-choice early action), applications typically are due October 15, November 1-15, but may vary. Students are not required to commit to attending a particular college until May 1.

Restrictive Early Action (REA) - Single-Choice Early ActionWith Single-Choice Early Action, students are allowed to apply early to one college or university only (in other words, studentsare forbidden to apply to any other school using Early Applications or Early Decision applications, with exception of scholarship or program deadlines). Typically, Single-Choice Early Action applications have due dates of between November 1 and 15.

Regular Admission Regular Admission applications are due to most colleges and universities between January 15 and February 1 (the University ofCalifornia schools have a regular application deadlines of November 30). Each school’s Regular Application deadline should benoted and adhered to by student applicants.

Rolling Admission (Rolling Decision)Under Rolling Admission, there are no application deadlines; colleges accept applications and applicants throughout the year.Decisions to admit students are made on a case-by-case basis and students usually receive decision letters within 4 to 8 weeks.

Under the My Colleges Tab, each individual college has its own specific questions, deadlines and may also have additional writing supplements.

Specific college informationincludes, deadlines, testing policies, application fees, required forms and recommendations, application fees and much more!

Some colleges give interested applicants the option to complete and submit an Fine Arts Portfolio as part of their application. This is may be required through a service called SlideRoom.

You must complete the Education Section before the FERPA Release Authorization appears!Click on the Common App tab to begin working on the main part of the application.

When is my deadline?

To meet an application deadline, you must submit your application materials by 11:59 pm on the deadline date posted on your Dashboard.

You will request your teacher recommenders on Naviance under the Colleges Tab Letters of Recommendation.

Some colleges allow outside recommenders that may be linked directly to the Common Application

You have the option to invite an advisor to look over your application in the read only mode.

This information is important if you will be applying for Federal Financial Aid and is required if you will be filling out the FAFSA.This is also a good time to find out if the college requires the CSS Profile found on the Collegeboard website. Some colleges require it as a supplemental to the FAFSA.Check the college Financial Aid website or CSS Profile.

It is important to list ALL schools attended for any courses you have taken outside Del Norte High School. Transcripts are required from all schools attended.

Report any colleges you attended, courses you took whether onsite or onlineand grades that you earned.

•Must include your counselor’s name, email and phone contact.•Includes a Secondary School Report submitted by your counselor.•May Include a Letter of Recommendation.

• Del Norte High School does not report rank.

• Use the weighted cumulative GPA

List all tests taken and scores earned in SAT, SAT Subjects, ACT and AP exams.

You MUST have your OFFICIALscores sent directly from the testing agency either Collegeboard or ACT.

Check ALLdeadlines for test score submission.

There are only 10spots for Activities, so you may have to group them together in a logical way by similar activities.

For example: Did you complete some community service or participate in an activity as a member of a club? List it as part of the functions and duties under the club, rather than separately.

IMPORTANTList senior courses as semesters. You have 15spots to list senior year courses.

You must list all courses, academic and non-academic including Seminar classes, PE, Work Experience, A/T, etc.

Senior Year Academic Course Listing

• List courses as Semesters.• List only senior courses.• All senior courses are on the transcript unless taken elsewhere.• Make sure to order an official transcript.

Selected Colleges:List All grades and All Courses:

• List courses as Semesters.• List grades 9-11. **List grade 12 grades only after Tri. 1.• List AP courses full year taken by semester.• List Seminar as an elective course.• List pairs of courses as full year by semester.• List singletons separately.

IMPORTANT;Most colleges will not require this step, however there are anincreasing number of colleges that will require you to enter your entire transcript of courses, grades and credits.

You must list all courses, academic and non-academic including Seminar classes, PE, Work Experience, A/T, etc. as reflected on your transcript.

Grade 12:Mark “no” if no official grades have been issued on your transcript yet for Tri. 1.

Note: Most colleges on the Common Application will receive a Midyear Report and updated transcript with Tri. 1 grades.

Write your essay in Word and then copy and paste it into the application.

A word of caution: Look at your essay after you copy and paste. You may have to fix the formatting.

USE SPELL CHECK and remember you can edit for future submissions, but generally this essay goes to ALL schools so do not be school specific in your essay.

College SpecificWriting Supplement

Some colleges require applicants to submit a Writing Supplement. A college’s Writing Supplement can only be submitted after your application materials have been submitted.

Once you have completed the FERPA Waiver on Common Application, you must “Match”your account with Naviance. This will sync the two systems.

Click the “red” plus

Copy your Common Application email exactly and double check the birthday.

Your college list in Naviance must match the same colleges listed in your Common Application.Make sure you list ALL the schools you are applying to in Naviance!

Click the “pencil” to edit and keep track of application dates, submissions and decisions.

You are required to keep your college information up to date, including application type, deadlines and outcomes! You can accomplish this by editing and adding to the specific criteria.Just click on the pencil in your list of colleges.

You must also add your teacherrequests for letters of recommendation!There are two ways to get to the link. Either on the “Colleges” page or “Colleges-Apply to Colleges.

Choose your teachers from the pull down menu. If your teacher is not in the list, see your counselor! You can write your teacher a note of thanks when you send the invite, but be sure to ask them in person first!

Ordering Transcripts:

A two step process.

1. Order in Naviance.

2. Download Transcript Request form. Bring to the Registrar.

You must order your transcript through Naviance, by clicking on the Transcript link. Only order those transcripts that you need at this time.

Download the transcript request form, fill it out and bring it to the Registrar. This is the only way that your transcripts will be sent!

You can check the status of your transcripts or order new ones!But don’t forget to follow up with a hard copy form to Finance and the Registrar!

Transcript Delivery MethodsThis icon means the student documents can be submitted electronically via Common Application.

This icon means the student documents can be submitted electronically and it is a college specific application.

This icon means that student has chosen to utilize the college specific application and not use the Common Application. (Some colleges allow students to choose which application they want to use.) Utilize this method also when completing the Coalition Application. Their documents can still be submitted electronically.
