Did you know that Butler Springs Christian Camp is gearing up for it’s 70th summer of offering church camp opportunities? In 1949, several men drove from a local C.C.C. Camp at Fort Hill to inspect the current Butler Springs’ property. Their dream, to have our own camp, became a reality. Two camps, Tri-State Christian and Victory Christian, came together to become what is now Butler Springs. For nearly 70 years, this camp has faithfully served the churches of the Restoration Movement from areas in, near, or around Dayton, Cincinnati, Chillicothe, Columbus, northern Kentucky, and other towns in Southwest Ohio. Butler Springs began as a week-long, all age camp. Today, it is an all year, multifaceted camp and retreat center.

Each summer, Bulter Springs offer thousands of kids an opprtunity to attend camp in a nature setting, where they get to hear the good news about our Lord Jesus Christ. Over the years God has blessed and allowed the camp to grow it’s facilities as well as its programing. Did you know that each summer, Butler Springs offers over 52 different sessison, utilizing all 145 acres of land. Kids get the opportunity to do all sorts of amazing acitivities such as experiencing a high ropes course, a climbing tower, a full gynasium, a giant swing, two different zip lines at various heights, human fooseball, air rifles, archery, bazooka ball, horseback riding, tent camping, and wilderness exploring. Beyond utilizing Butler Springs facilities, camp now offers high school students three amazing off property experiences such as Canadian Outback, Wild West Viriginia, and new for 2019 Western Extreme, which is a trip out west to multiple national parks. Butler Springs has truly been blessed.

Last summer 1,696 youth attended camp as a camper, which took 282 adult voulunteers, and an addition 174 junior volunteers to facilitate. Because of these efforts 54 campers were batpized at camp, and 19 were baptized at home. During the summer campers gave $9,700 in missions giving with a $10,000 matching gift from the camp. Because there is a desire by the camp board and staff to make sure every kid has an opportunity to attend a camp, scholarships are given, which totaled in 2018, $17,420. Even with these matching gifts and scholarships, God still blessed, and the camp ended the year in the black.

For many years Bulter Springs has been a ministry partner of the West Side Church of Christ. Not only do we send monthly financial support, but many West Side Christians have also served at camp. Each summer, West Side supports one full week of camp. Currently this week is known as Adventure 456 and our minister, Michael Dawson, serves as the dean. In addition, many of our youth spend at least one week at camp each summer.

Please keep Bulter Springs in your prayers. 2019 is shaping up to be a big year for the camp. The staff have made it a goal to have 2,000 campers this summer for the first time. To do so, the camp has increased it’s presence on social media. Pray that this advertising tool attracks kids who will come to hear the gospel of Jesus taught. On top of that, ground has broken for the camp’s newest construction project, summer staff housing. Pray for the construction process to go smoothly, and for the government red tape to move quickly. Also, pray for Adventure 456, which a team from West Side will lead July 14th – 19th. Finally, pray for West Side children and students who are going to camp as campers this summer. Pray that their experience will leave a lasting impact on their walk with Christ.

On Sunday February 17th we had the privilege of ordaining Mike Fox as our newest Elder here at West Side. It is always a joy to add to and grow our leadership team. Everything we do hinges on the strength and growth of our Elders. It is our Elders who set the course and shepherd our church.

Last year our Elders began a new shepherding program where we divided the entire church into shepherding groups and placed each West Side Christian under the care of one of our Elders. We began this process because we saw a need in our church to build community and for our elders to take a new step in caring for our flock. Over the course of the year our groups organized and began meeting. We thank you for your patience as we continue to figure out and understand what this shepherding model is going to look like.

As we bring a new Elder on board, you may be asking, how is this going to impact our shepherding groups? Right now, the answer is, not much. Because our groups are so new, we as a leadership team have decided not to make any changes right now. We want to allow time for growth to happen and community to develop. We fear if we changed things now, so early into the process, we might set back some of the early foundation work that has been laid. We also want to give Mike some time to incorporate into our Eldership group. So, for now, Mike is going to be visiting the shepherding groups when they meet to get a glimpse of how each group functions. At the conclusion of 2019 we plan to readdress and determine what changes if any we want to make to the shepherding model.

Let me leave you with this request. As you spend time each day in prayer, please keep your shepherd and all the Elders of this church in your prayers. Pray that they continue to grow closer to Christ and deeper in their knowledge of His Word. Pray for their families. And finally, pray that God would reveal his direction and desire for our congregation. ~ In Christ’s Service, Michael

Generations March 3 Guest Speaker – Steve Elkins March 10 The Millennials March 17 Closing the Gap March 24 Looking Forward March 31 Christian Essentials

The Church is designed by God to be a family, and one of the things that make up any family is multiple generations. Sadly, in our current culture, there seems to be a lot of division among our generations. This division

threatens the church because the younger don’t learn from the older, and the older are not revived by the passion of the younger. In this series we will seek to understand the four major generations that make up our church an how we can unite to love and lead people to a life changing relationship with Jesus.
