Coco Chanel broke the rule that “dressmakers were never

considered a part of society”.

Before venturing into jewelry, Louis Tiffany was

commissioned by Chester A. Arthur to redecorate the reception

rooms in the White house.

Early jewelry was made of bones and teeth.

After learning some of the basic business concepts, it

was now time for the fun stuff – making jewelry.

The two most frequently used techniques in making

jewelry are wire wrapping and crimping:

Wire wrapping is used to form the loop to attach a pendant to a necklace or charms to an earring binding.

Crimping is the process of used to attach jewelry bindings onto the end of the wire.

Wire wrapping is harder than it looks. I found it a

challenge to get the wire tight against the bead and

to wrap with the same size loops. This technique took

a lot of practice to get right.

My final project - a Coca Cola jewelry set I made for my mother

At the bead

show, I

purchased the

materials to

create my final

project, using

the skills I

learned from

the Iaquintos.

I came up with

the design, chose

the colors,

purchased the

materials, and

used crimping,

My biggest challenge is staying

focused and I was concerned

that this problem would

interfere with my ability to

learn all the details involved

in creating jewelry.

Through this Senior Project

process, I realized that

jewelry-making really holds

my attention. I think because I

enjoy it so much, it is easier

for me to stay focused. I enjoyed this project so much

that I have asked the Iaquintos

if I can continue to work with

them. I hope to one day own my own

jewelry-design business.
