There’s something about working to music that changes the process

of design. For me it has a sor t of ‘unlocking’ af fec t . It seems to

open up my mind to design possibil it ies that without music wouldn’t

enter my head . Dif ferent st yles of music can inf luence your designs

in dif ferent way. Music volume helps my creat ive process and is

absolutely essent ial . In graphic design, volume gives pictured objects

a sense of real it y as opposed to being f lat . In this book, each project

has its dif ferent volumes of look and its creat ive processes.

R3 is a collaborative effort by the graphic design students at the Academy

of Art University that promotes sustainable design. The R3 approach

focuses not only on redesigning better things, but better experiences as

well. Good design can yield good results and that starting the creative

conversation with fresh minds is the fastest way to get there.

Recent research shows that microwave oven-cooked food suffers severe

molecular damage. When eaten, it causes abnormal changes in human blood and

immune systems. Not surprisingly, the public has been denied details on these

significant health dangers. To reduce the risk of microwave oven usage and

enhance our current life style, I discovered and redesigned the microwave oven

by reducing its size and adding new techniques to healthy cooking within its

design. Also, the size of the new product more portable and heats food in any

place you desire.

Flunk is a Norwegian electronic band consisting of producer Ulf Nygaard,

guitarist Jo Bakke, drummer Erik Ruud, and vocalist Anja Oyen Vister. The

style of their music is very creamy with dreamy vocals over a hushed base of

samples, keys, and softly strummed guitars, creating an ethereal, past-midnight

vibe. The concept of book is using Lome style photography, visual elements and

vivid color represent the soul of their music and personalities.

ULF NYGAARD ANJA VISTER

bIoGRAphY

The band began as a project between Ulf, and Jo in Oslo, Norway in winter 2000 and 2001. Beginning as an instrumental and sampled vocal project, they were signed for a track on a compilation by Beatservice Records in winter 2001. On hearing the

finished track, label manager Vidar Hanssen signed the unnamed band for a full album. During early summer 2001, Ulf and Jo recorded most of the album and Anja improvised the vocals. After their vocals, Jo layered the guitars, but it would be a year

before the album would be completed and released. In spring 2002, the band was known as Flunk and they released their first single, a cover of New Order’s Blue Monday in April. The track was well received in the UK and was included on numerous

compilations in North America and Europe. Later in April, their debut album For Sleepyheads Only was released which garnered great reviews in Norway. With the success of their album, BBC invited them to do a recording session for the Radio 1 show

The Blue Room in London. Shortly after Notting Hill Art’s Club would become the location of their live debut. In the United States, they signed with Guidance Recordings. By summer 2002, the band was getting rave reviews from British electronica

magazines and in July they played Norway’s finest rock festival. In October For Sleepyheads Only was released in the US through Guidance Recordings. In November they played the London Jazz Festival. Throughout 2003 their debut, For Sleepyheads

Only was still being echoed across the globe in staggered releases with special editions released to Russia and Greece. Beatservice Records then went on to release Treat Me Like You Do - For Sleepyheads Only Remixed in June. While their debut contin-

ued to make its way around, the band wasted no time and began work on their second album for the majority of the year, which was recorded in Paris in October.

Launched in 1932 , Tiger Beer became Singapore’s f i rst loca l ly brewed

beer. It is ava i lable in more than 60 countr ies worldwide includ ing

the USA, Canada, Austra l ia , New Zea land and var ious countr ies in

the Middle East , Europe and Lat in Amer ica. To br ing a new fresh

look to the beer, my goa l was to promote Tiger ’s beer cu lture and the

guaranteed enjoyment of the brand. My idea was to show freshness

and energy through a new organ ic logo and i l lust rat ive elements that

intergrate the label .

Kohl’s current tag line is “Expect Great Things.” The package designs will focus

on the expectation of what the customer is buying and also add unexpected

elements to make the packaging more interactive and fun. Since none of kohl’s

current private brands are positioned in the “better” or “best” categories in

terms of quality, one main goal will be to expand their merchandise into these

“luxury” categories through design.

The concept for the Urban Forest Project banner emphasizes the importance

on planting and saving tress in our environment. Animals and people need a

place to survive. This design incorporated a bird and leaf theme to represent

the message of “ Save Our Green Trees”. It is a message to encourage us to

physically plant more tress to keep our city greener and healthier.

This section is a collection of some of the logos I created throughout the

course of my education. They are presented in both black and white and in

color in order to show the logos’ versatility.
