Based on the collected data, we chose histogram as a suitable visual representation

because histogram could summarize the large data set and it also can show the central

tendency as well as the dispersion of the data set. The histogram has been drawn

based on the sample shoe size of 100 students in IPG Kampus Raja Melewar. We can

use the data to estimate the shoe sizes of new intake students in PPISMP in our

campus whom are almost same age and height.

Our sample is made of students from PPISMP,PISMP and KPLI. Hence, our sample

represent all course and age groups range from 18 years old to 31 years old in the

campus. Shoe size does change for male and female after the age of 18 years old.

(reference). Our sample is a very good representation of all the students in the campus.

The overall range of the shoe size is from 20.0 cm to 35.9 cm. The modal range of shoe

size is from 28.0 cm to 29.9 cm. Based on the histogram, the range of the male shoe

size is from 24.0 cm to 35.9 cm and the modal range for male shoe size is 30.0 cm

31.9 cm. The percentage of shoe size in this range is 54%.The range of the female

shoe size is from 20.0 cm to 29.9 cm and the modal range for female shoe size is 26.0

cm 27.9 cm. The percentage of shoe size in this range is 46%.

We are informed that a new intake of 1000 students for the PPISMP course will be

arriving in campus. IPG Kampus Raja Melewar has been instructed to provide shoes for

all students. Predict the number of each shoe size that the Institute would order so that

at least 95 % of the students would receive their shoes on the first day.

According to the data obtained from HEP, the number of PPISMP for the June 2010

intake is 250 students. The number of male students is 100 and female students is 150

students. In terms of percentage, there was 60% of female and 40% of male students.

Since 1000 students will be taken for the new intake, 60 % are expected to be female

which is 600 students and 40 % are expected to be male which is 400 students.

Besides that, we calculate the mean and standard deviation for respective gender.

(95% of a population is usually 2 standard deviation away from the mean)

For 95 % of the male : 29.8 + (1.7 x 2) = 33.2 (2 standard deviation above)

: 29.8 - (1.7 x 2) = 26.4 (2 standard deviation below)

The shoe size for prediction ranges from 26 33 cm.

We predict the number of shoe size for male in the table below.
