Presentations Presentation by Author
Julia MacDonnell
Friday, December 15
10:30 am - 11:30 am
Julia MacDonnell, a new
resident of Hightstown
and a member of the East
Windsor Senior Center, will talk about the
process of writing and publishing her
highly praised novel, Mimi Malloy, At Last!
which came out from Picador in 2014.
People Magazine called Mimi Malloy, At
Last! “cathartic, suspenseful and droll…a
hopeful take on both old age and bad
blood.”
Sally Koslow, author of The Widow Waltz
and The Late Lamented Molly Marx, called
Julia’s novel “A love letter to sisterhood,
Frank Sinatra, late in life romance, and the
enduring ties of family. The book’s narra-
tor calls to mind a Boston-Irish Olive Kit-
teridge, as peppery as she is big-hearted.
Mimi Malloy, At Last! will make you
laugh, cry and relive your own past.”
Julia says the novel is an homage to her
own late mother and to the many strong
women in her large Irish Catholic family,
but she adds that Mimi offers universal
themes not bounded by religion or ethnic-
ity. She will talk about the ins and outs of
publishing and how she sold her second
novel almost 20 years after she published
her first.
